Hi everyone
Sorry this is not exactly a TTC question but seeing as all of us are so aware of our cycles I thought someone might be able to help.
Since coming off the pill last year I get quite bad period pain on the days leading up to AF and on the first day of it. This months its really bad to the point where it woke me in the middle of the night and I had to curl into a ball with a heatpack and panadol until it went away.... it was almost excruciating.
I know some pain is normal but Im starting to worry, also because Ive been TTC for 4-5 cycles with no luck so I guess Im wanting to make sure everything is ok. My cycle is long at 38-40 days but it's regular, and Im ovulating.
Any help much appreciated.

You can take nurofen or evening primrose oil that helps with bad period pain

Thanks Oxy, Ill try that.
I meant to say in my message does anyone know how much pain is enough to be really worried about/get checked out? Is there anything else I need to watch for?

My period pain is very painful too, I use to down 2 nurofen when I started spotting to get ontop of the pain and have to continue popping pills until day 2 of AF. Now with TTC i have weaned myself of nurofen as its not reccomended and have started on Vb6 and EPO to help releive the pain. If I have to which is usually the case I will take a 1 panadol or Asprin.
If you are concerned make an appointment with your gp as I think pcos and endo are causes of excrucaiting period pain ....?

Hi, from what I have heard most women get some period pain either before or during their period. If it is painful enough to stop you from doing normal daily activities (such as working), you are worried about it or you are having to take strong drugs for it then I would consider getting it checked out.
I had bad period pain and it turned out that I had endo which I had removed. The only way you can tell if you have endo is by laparoscopic surgery which is obviously fairly invasive so it's not something that the drs take lightly. There was quite a criteria for the surgery such as needing to take time off work for the pain.
In saying that I still have period pain and I had the surgery 3 months ago so I'm pretty annoyed it hasn't helped! But as I say, most women do experience some pain so I wouldn't go jumping to conclusions that you have endo, just wanted to share my experience.

I had/have really really bad period pain. Some days I would need to go home from work it got that bad. I used to take Ponstan 3 times a day plus panadol when required to keep the pain at a minimum. Now I just take Panadol and Nurofen cos Im breastfeeding.
Having said that, I had an ovarian cyst removed which was contributing to the pain I was getting. I have also been checked for Endo and PCOS but thankfully dont have either.
It took 9 months to conceive Jackson and I also had a MC during that time. If you are worried about the pain you should see your Dr, but like others have said some pain is normal unfortaunately.

I think that sounds quite normal - some months it would wake me up and would have to take nurofen and a wheat bag and then some months hardly anything!

I would get it checked out. Lots of people experience pain but lots of people don't. I went down the track of checking out my period pain as it was so bad that I can remember days in my teens where I just had to sit and concentrate on breathing. I've since discovered that the pain I feel when not on the pill is very much what I feel in labour.
I got pregnant before I was offered a laparoscpy but there are blood tests and things that they tend to do before a laparoscopy anyway so if you're in pain I figure there is nothing to lose by getting it checked out. Especially if TTC.
Re managing the pain, the pill is the only thing that has ever taken the pain away for me but Ponstan and Naprogesic can be worth a try.

Definitely discuss this with your GP - Period pain is one of those things that I think we think that we have to put up with, (I did for a long time) but we don't
Anyway - synflex made my period pain SO much more tolerable...Panadol/nurofen just did not cut it. There are also other options if synflex doesn't work, but it was my little wonder drug. I'd sometimes need to take it prior to getting my period, and on day one...sometimes day two. But, I would not need much (ie, I did not need as much as I was prescribed). It can also have a good side effect of making heavy periods lighter. Also, so you know, I conceived whilst taking this medication, so it didn't interfere with that at all.
Interestingly, the pill can help period pain a lot. Obviously, when ttc, you can't have that bonus...for obvious reasons!! GOOD LUCK. Period pain is horrible!
