Which is safer....

Shall I make sure I have a base (that stays in the car) for my baby capsule or is it just as safe to use the car seat belt that can slot through the baby capsule...

Anyone know of research or recommendations?

Trying to decide if I should by a Bill and Ted baby capsule and sport buggy...or look at a different manufacturer. Bill and Ted don't do bases...

I dont know about safety wise, but convenience the base is fantastic. We used the seat belt for our first two girls (now aged 7 1/2 and 6), this time we used one with a base - it was FANTASTIC! so easy to click in and out.

With my first DD we had a seatbelt capsule, it was a pain in the backside.

We got one with a base this time and I agree with Muz, the convenience was great! After a while though we switched DD2 to a proper seat as the capsule was getting too heavy with her in it and she wasn't too far from outgrowing it either.

We have the base and its great to just clip it in and away we go. Although we have the safety harness that goes over the capsule and clips into an anchor point (required by law here in Aus) which can be a PITA but for safety IMO its totally worth it.

I wouldnt buy a capsule without a base for safety reasons rather than ease of use. But thats just me.

When talking to the Baby on the Move lady - she indicated that the capsules with bases were safer than the ones that only clipped in with a seatbelt. The reason she gave was that once the base is installed in your car properly and safely - the capsule will always be secured properly and safely in it no matter how many times you clip the capsule in and out. Whereas the seatbelt-only capsules have to be re-secured every time you put it in the car and it is easy when you are in a rush to not take the time to make sure that you have clipped it in correctly and safely.

Hopefully that makes sense?

But as heaps of people still use seat-belt only capsules - I'm sure they are still very safe.

Personally, when looking at capsules - I found the Phil & Teds capsule to be nice and light but it also looked very flimsy. We went with a Graco (with a base) instead - they are fantastic. Just my opinion though - Good luck!

The are both as safe as each other, the base is just a convenience thing, you need to make sure that you click the capsule into the base solidly every time. If you get one without a base you need to make sure you install it correctly every time, a capsule with European routing (where the seat belt wraps around the back of the capsule) doesn't need a locking clip, a capsule with American routing (just over top of the babies feet) does need a locking clip every time.

If you get a capsule with European routing you need to make sure your cars seat belt is long enough.
