| I am 8 weeks pregnant with my first baby, and I am wanting to know if I can go out and purchase nappies already without seeing if my baby will like them. People have told me i need to wait until he/she is born before i buy a certain brand of nappies.?? |

Its a good idea not to buy loads of newborn nappies in one brand cos depends on length of baby and how big/chubby they are as to which fits best. Most people would say that huggies and treasures ultra are the most absorbant disposables, and huggies are a much smaller fit. You can expect to have to change baby around 10 times a day in the beginning weeks. Isla was 8lb6 and was still fitting newborn treasures ultra at 5 weeks when we changed to cloth nappies. You can get free samples from the treasures website too! |

I started buying quite early on but buy different types, you soon realise what works for your baby and what doesn't. Most supermarkets allow you to swap unopened packets for other sizes and I found by the time they get to toddler size nappies anything does the job.

me and DH are also thinkin about stocking up on some baby bits from the supermarket with each shop, like one a shop.
Which disposable is best for NB in your experiences? Baby Love, Trasures, Huggies, homebrand??? we want to go to MCN later but will start out with sposies -------------    CHEM 6/12+ |

| I wouldn't stock up on things like that, buy grocery vouchers instead that way you only buy as you need them and you don't have excess you don't need. But at least the money is put away for those things. |

| Hi - I'm with Kellz until you have bubs you won't really know - I brought a few packets but definately preferred one brand over another and some ended up being on sold. I found stocking up on other things like toothpaste, dishwashing liquid, dishwasher powder, soap powder, meat etc quite a good idea and then it didn't hurt so much while on one income. You could also buy vouchers to use at the supermarket for later on as well instead of stocking up on the nappies? Its the same as buying clothing until you have bubs its really hard - I got the basic but put aside some cash to use when I had bubs (or again you could buy vouchers from the shops to use). |

for us huggies were by far the best..i bought up heaps of NB and he was only 7pd 3 and still didnt get through them all:) ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

| Huggies!! We tried Treasures, Pams and BabyLove but none of them fitted the girls as nice as Huggies (although they are more expensive also). When you get your ReachMe pack, and your Bounty packs, you will get some samples to give you some to try which may help too. |

We used huggies .. then mcn's.
I would do what kebakat suggested and buy grocery vouchers as you honestly wont know what is going to work for you until you have a real live peeing machine.  ------------- Mummy to Issy (3) and Elias (18 months) I did it .. 41 kgs gone! | also if you go disposable, buying online works out sooo much cheaper - so you can use the coucher for food, and then food money on online nappies. it is so tempting though to have those nappies in a nice little pile. |

i find the type of nappy or brand depends completely on ur baby. my 1st seemed to be fine in what ever he wore, however my 2nd son leaked with any nappy and huggies becoz of price was my last resort, but eventually i bought a pack and went from a nappy lasting 30mins (ds2 had long skinny legs) to a whole night with out wet clothes and bedding. needless to say when i had ds3 i stocked up on huggies when they were on special and have done so this time. if u really want to stock up on nappies, id say get a pack or 2 of different brands and see which ones u like when baby arrives, what u dont like u can sell on trademe or pass on for someone else to try out. ------------- Mummy to 4 boys Samuel - 18.6.05 Rory - 15.7.06 Mason - 13.06.08 Emmett - 24.01.10 Baby #5 - cooking |

Huggies are def the best IMO! I bought a lot of newborn sized nappies and then when I found out the gender started buying the infant and crawler size. I didn't have to buy nappies from when he was born until around 5 months old  I only ever bought them when they were on special - they go on special alllll the time, the small packs will only be like $9.50 and the larger packets $20.

I loved huggies with Bethany, she was little from the start and stayed petite. Although interestingly enough they worked best for my friend's lil girl who was a lot chubbier too. We both found the select brand good too. I'd say it's a good idea to have some nappies on hand for when bubs is born, but don't go all-out on one particular brand until you've had a go with them. We were fortunate cuz we were given 2 nappy cakes and a whole lot of nappies at the baby shower, so we didn't have to buy anything to start us off, we just bought the ones we liked once we'd run out :) Congrats and have fun planning and prepping for your new wee bubs!! -------------

Me again sorry! :P I suggest you start a new topic again that's specific to your question, cuz you're likely to get a lot more suggestions and answers from ppl :) There are so many options out there for prams that depend on what you're looking for, not to mention cost. We borrowed a pram with Bethany (don't know the brand sorry) and used an old mountain buggy for the first year. More recently (since falling pregnant again) we've bought a phil & teds buggy cuz I love their configuration for two children. They can also clip in the capsule & a thing called a 'peanut' which makes it work like a pram. The recline setting on the seat part is the only one that can lie totally flat, most are on a bit of an incline which isn't recommended for babies for long periods of time. Anyway, that's my 2 cents - feel free to pm me if you've got any more questions! But maybe try starting a new thread (in case this question gets overlooked when ppl look at this thread) cuz you'll get heaps more info from lots of sources to help you decide what will work best for you :) -------------

| Hi Mealaz - hope your having fun! If you have a Baby on the Move in the area you live in maybe give them a ring. We got our pram from Baby City but I got so frustrated with it and ended up getting a Snap and Go for hire at $10 per month - this was a god send! The car capsule snaps onto a frame and off you go - so if out and about and bubs asleep no waking up to get into pram. I used it for the 1st 12 months and was gutted when she go too big. We ended up buying a Phil and Ted (and listing straight away on TM) as it turned out I preferred the Bootiq that we already had (as if I had no 2 again I liked the idea of the capsule being able to go onto the pram). So it was a huge expensive learning curve and I wish I had contacted Baby on the Move before I rushed off and purchased my original pram. And something I wish I had tried before purchasing was making sure that the pram could fit easily into the boot of the car, is it easy to lift, get up and down (how many times I fought with the damn thing!). I recommend Milano Tech Rider Travel System. Which you can get from Baby City for $329. It includes the newborn capsule, which also clicks into the stroller. And if you can afford it, buy the Milano Capsule Base, it's $69.99. It stays in the car and the capsule clicks into it, which saves having to do up and undo seatbelts(as in the car seatbelts) every time you want to take the capsule out or put it back in. All these things just make life a little bit easier with a newborn.
As for nappies. I guess I'll just see what works for me. But so far I have stocked up on 2 bulk boxes of Huggies Newborn. By the sounds of it huggies seem to be a favourite on here anyway. -------------

Esca is that the pram you got with the base? Thats what I got!! Haven't used it yet obviously but it was easy to put together, some women say they have difficulty collapsing it, I have no problems and it fits into the car!!
Oh and nappy wise I've got a box of Huggies 108 New Born size, should last a couple/few of weeks, so if I like that once baby comes I'll stick with it, but I also want to try cloth nappies! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Probably. It came with the capsule and we got a base as well. We actually got it off trademe for only $150. So it was a great deal! There is a technique to collapsing it. I guess some people just have trouble grasping that technique. -------------
