i wouldnt panic about the wieght thing. as long as you walk regularly and dont eat junk and fast food you'll be totally fine. the doc or MW will keep an eye on things so dont worry unnecissarily :) make sure you eat lots of fruit and veggies and go down the healthy path. thats way more imprtant than what you weight :)

my sis went from 100 pre preg and put on 6kg during her pregnancy and had no trouble whatsoever. its pretty common i think. best of luck, you'll be fine :D

Yep, done it twice, and put on 15KG each time.    I had slightly elevated blood pressure the first time around and had a c-section for breeched presentation and a failed vbac second time around but neither had anything to do with my weight.    I didn't exactly eat healthy either!

Four weeks since I had my second child and I've lost 6KG already and I'm feeling great!   So I don't feel weight has any bearing on much really unless you have other health issues like high BP or diabetes.

I just kept focusing on the fact that when my baby was out I would make a conscious effort to lose weight and I have to say, breastfeeding is doing a wonderful job of that!

im 39wks preg atm and am the heaviest i have been. my 1st pregnancy i was at a 'healthy" weight. and was after i had him, how ever i put on a bit with my 2nd and didnt manage to loose it b4 having my 3rd and again with my 4th (i managed to loose 10kg in first half of this preg which was just random luck) how ever i managed to put all that weight plus 2kg back on in the 2nd half.

this is suppose to be our last baby for at least 3yrs so im planning to back an effert to loose it.

i have found the weight this time hasnt helped with the heaviness that u feel towards the end but it hasnt seemed to effected me or baby health wise.

I'm 136kg this time (20kg lighter than last time) and apart from unrelated hip/back problems, i've not had problems with later stage pregnancy, or early at all! You just gotta keep moving else you feel like seizing up and falling over :P

I am over 130kgs and pregnant for the first time, my MW has just referred me to Greenlane Maternity Outpatients as my BMI is to high so i get to go and see a doctor, i am not sure what to expect or whats going to happen.

I received a letter in the mail a couple of days ago with an appointment date for the 19th Jan so will be interesting to see what happens there.

I was 104 when I got pregnant and had no issues, except right at the end of my pregnancy my BP went up but it wasn't because of anything except being over the pregnancy and having a bit of family stress really. I didn't eat perfectly but did have a lot of morning sickness, I started walking a fair bit at the end of my pregnancy and now with bubs being 6 days old I weigh 98 kg!!! I know that a lot of people expected me to have issues since I was overweight to start with but it didn't happen so poo to them!!

I dont lose weight brestfeeding i get hungry. This time i have managed to get down to 99kgs and im hopeing with a healthy diet and walking lots i wont put on to much weight. I have to keep very fit as i had very bad SP with Isabella.

Yup! I'm 103 and that to be honest is my biggest concern about being PG.
Plus I'm exhausted, I really want to get active, I know that it will help me in the long run, but I'm finding it hard to keep going some days, keep napping.

But the other part of me knows that I'll be fine, just gotta remember that being PG doesn't mean I can eat whatever I like!

BF hasnt helped me to lose the pg weight either... tho I can say I can pretty much eat what I like and not exercise and my weight doesnt change... darn being so lazy!!!

I keep losing and gaining the same 3kgs.... Very early days here but I am determined not to get heavier than I was when I had Jake... am off to the gym tomorrow to get a 6 month off peak membership (was planning it last week before finding out we were pg) so I can use the pool at least 3 times a week... plus after my swim or aqua jog jake can have a swim too

Am praying I dont get my McChicken cravings like last time!

This is normal. Your body will retain fat around your bum, thighs and even sometimes your back as this is where is pulls your resources for you milk from.
This weight generally (but not always) will fall off just by breastfeeding.
If not, walking should do the trick.

I put on 26 kg during my pregnancy. Started out at 64kg and ended up at 90kg. For my little frame thats huge  but I managed fine and the weight is coming off with breastfeeding and gentle exercise.

You my hips, arms and back have slimmed down but booty is still huge.... Its amazing that your body starts storing that food source so early on eh! Preparing for the unexpected.

My bum and thighs are big enough as it is!! NO!!!

I weighed myself this morning, lost a kg from last week, so quite stoked that I'm not going up at least.

I'm not trying to loose weight, I'm just not eating large meals, just more regular snacks and I've increased my excercise.

I work with those kinda people (you know the ones) that are really involved in other peoples lives and like to comment on everyone's physical appearance. A friend from work has just gone on maternity leave and her boobs were large to begin with, then everyone was commenting on her PG boobs! Really looking forward to that!

I was 103kg at 14weeks. I put hardly any weight on in the first 2trimesters, infact I lost some. I ended up being 119kg all up I think?

Don't stress about it. As you have higher fat stores therefore baby takes alot more of that

I put on more weight as well because I wasn't working not even in an office job after about 4mths (not through choice), but meant I had more time and was easy with appointments etc.

No complications whatsoever. my mw did ask me to have a GTT test early on because of my BMI whichw as fine. DD wasn't a big bay either only 3.25kg and with both DP and I being bigger we thought she might be. She's also half Samoan (DP's side) so we thought that might have been a factor. I was still sitting down on the ground at 37weeks pregnant and not needing help to get up lol

Yeah don't get too worried about it. I'm not sure how much I weighed at the beginning of my pregnancy but at 8 weeks I was 107kg...a week before I gave birth I weighed 124kg...I did have complications at the end...borderline gestational diabetes and slightly elevated BP...but with healthy eating and walking each day (which was a b!tch!..as bubs head was engaged and it hurt like hell lol)..I kept things under control. The day after having DS I was down to 117kg. Next time around I'll be a hell of a lot lighter..no babies happening here til I'm  at goal!

Thanks Elle and Eva, it's good to hear some postive O/W PG stories, you only ever hear the bad stuff!

Elle what is a GTT test?

Eva looks like you're doing awesome with your weightloss to date! I'm sure you'll get there before you get UTD!

I'm just feeling a little gutted about being overweight, as we weren't actually "trying" to get PG, I just missed 1 pill and that's all it takes! I'd just started back at WW as was doing really well.
Oh well, just trying to keep active and cut out the junk.

I'm already out growing my bras which I'm not happy about considering I'm only 6 weeks! I saw a woman at the Radiology Centre today, overheard her conversation (she wasn't speaking quietly) she's 10 weeks and was just this wee dot of a woman, about a size 6-8, small boobies, no bump... jealous much?

I was in maternithy bras at 8 weeks and stayed in them until 36 weeks when I need to go up a size.. I am still in those bras now but have noticed at the end of the day they are a bit tight Was really hoping they wouldnt grow past the E cup they are right now!

What exactly are maternity bras? I currently wear Triumphs "Minimizer" bras as they're the only ones that seem to rein them in!!

I was hoping to just stay in these ones and just go up a size?

Normal bras seem to hold them up alright, but just stick out front too much, if you get what I mean, that's why I love the Minimizers!

There is one but via facebook and the owner is an OB member but for the life of me I cant remember.. I am a fb fan so will check it out and let you know (if someone else doesnt post first).

Oh maternity bras are feeding bras.. ie no underwire... you should try not to wear underwire as it can damage the milk ducts as the breasts start to change for breastfeeding. You can get proper maternity bras (which are just underwire free but no feeding cups) but they are quite rare. Hotmilk have one and I saw some at the bendon outlet shop. They are a bit firmer in the band then a regular soft cup bar I think.

Dont give you much boos though.

Sorry was at a first birthday today FUN AND CAKE lol.

A GTT is the glucose tolerance test. Its bloody long 2hrs and you have to go in early in the morning (reading I hate mornings! I make my baby sleep in lol) You drink this drink which is like the lemonade sodastream stuff but thicker and you have to go nil by mouth from about 9pm which is uber hard when pregnant

We weren't trying either! I stopped taking my pill literally the week before AF arrived (ykwim 28day pill, sugar pills blah blah) and forgot to fill my script next thing you know preggers. Meh wouldn't change it for the world! I was lucky I stayed the same size in bras whoop whoop lol

Gah, when it comes to bras they annoy me, I'm used to being a nice C cup and then by week 20 I'd outgrown them and had to go buy new ones, which does actually cost a bit if you want decent quality either maternity or sports bras for comfort and support. So now I only have 4 that still fit :(
I'm up to double D verging on E but can't really go spend more money on bras :(
Elle, we weren't trying either (were in fact most certainly NOT trying IYGWIM) and then 2 months after we got together there I um UTD.
And I'm currently 95kgs, the heaviest in my life :(
and apparently look like I'm already 8-9mths pregnant!!

I would wait a few more weeks as you will most likely go up another size particularily when your milk comes in and it HURTS if your bra doesnt fit properly (well mine did).. I had 3 bras when pg and now have 5 (which are bigger) ....

Dont worry about how far along you look! We all carry differently and people should really shut their mouths and not be so rude. I heard someone ask my hubby how far along I was at 36 weeks and he told them and she said Oh big baby and my DH said, um no actually baby is very small and she replied oh your wife is carrying a lot of fluid then isnt she.

I was mortified, how rude!!!!

I put on a dress I wore all the time late in my pg and I still look pg LOL (Well I am but you know what I mean).

Oh and that link from mamanee was the company I meant!

So feeling a little gutted, I told my friend, who is a OB overseas, she's the only person I've/We've told, havn't told our parents yet.

The hospital she works at specialises in overweight PG's, so I asked for her advice on some things....

My suit jacket for work won't do up now because of my boobs and my clothes are tight around my waist, but no where else. I had read on whattoexpect.com that this is quite normal for 1st trimester.

She responded in a nice way, not being nasty, that I shouldn't be eating for 2 and that my clothes shouldn't be tight already.

I've had alot of issues over the years with dieting and it's been really hard for me to stop "dieting" since I've found out I'm PG, just been trying to be sensible.

I know she's not being horrible, but I just feel a little gutted that what I thought was "normal" apparently is not.

Meh ignore it all. I got bigger when I first fell pregnant because I went from working on my feet in a hot kitchen and crazy hours to working an 8hr day behind a desk. I was in "maternity" wear from about 17weeks. BUT it lasted till the end. I went doof doofing (read fat freddy's drop) in the rain in a maternity skirt and tights. Hehe

I seriously only had ummm three actual maternity items all the way through. An egg skirt, pair of jeans and a PP dress. The dress was bought new, the other two were trade me. If you live near a dressmart or discount shops then go shopping pick up $5 tees/tops and your good. I threw all that stuff out because well I wasn't going to wear it again. Also look in investing in a nice wrap around skirt, I bought one from trade me just a denim wrap with a bit of a design and still wear it.

In terms of eating I lived on fruit for quite awhile. We would buy fruit on Thursday and by Saturday needed more :) I actually ate during the day which I never did and generally had a better diet then when not pregnant.

One big tip, being pregnant over summer sucks no matter what trimester your in. Carry a bottle of water on you all the time even at home. I would end up guzzling ltrs back during the day because I was so thirsty, had headaches etc so was trying to keep hydrated to keep them at bay. It also helps with the hunger. I eat now because I am bored lol so still haven't lost the baby weight
