ARGH! Its only 8.30am and Thomas is going mental because he cant go outside. Its freezing and windy and rainy and he destroyed his raincoat in the toilet (dont ask). I'd prefer NOT to wrap him up in 10 layers of clothing and let him go for it!

What do you guys do with your toddlers when they cant go outside? I wish mine liked to draw/paint/play with play-dough etc.

Could you put a bucket of water on the kitchen floor with some towels down and let him play with that. Build a hut with dining room chairs and sheets.

I always have a least a couple of toys put away that have not been played with in a while so that when I get them out DD is most excited and plays with them for ages in comparison to anything that is out all the time.

I hope the weather either clears up or you find something that can keep him entertained.

See this is the problem! he wont just sit there and play.. he's gotta be on the move all the time. I wish it was that easy lol :/
If I could get away with sodding off to the mall for the day with him in the pushchair I would, but he just screams. I dont think 45mins on the bus would be a smart move either! Oh well.

does he not even play if you are playing with him?

my kids love the bus, but maybe thats cause we dont go on them very often... can you take a train ride somewhere or invite over a friend with a kid.

We do the usual play doh, books, cars, blocks, drawing etc. But we also just run around the sitting room (literally - he has me run from one end to the other, over and over), or gallop, jump etc, or jump over things (we made circles with pegs the other day that we jumped in and out of), he also runs aorund with push along toys still some days. Or kick balls to each other or into his goal, or throw them off the couch into a basket, or roll them at things. Zoom cars to each other. Get a blanket and have a pretend picnic with teddies in the lounge. Or bikes / scooter inside. We also do alot with blocks / lego.

Flissty - Jake wouldn't watch TV til 20months (when I put his highchair in front of disney channel to eat dinner, cos I was very preggie and thought I'd like him to watch it when I would be BFing) but I'd never really had it on much before then cos I didn't want him watching it - and now he is addicted! I don't think he liked it til he could understand what was happening and follow the story lines.

My son is exactly the same. I try and sit down and play with him but he loses interest very quickly and wonders off.

I got tired of him constantly jumping on Janaya's bed so I took his cot mattress off his cot and lay it on the ground in his room. I put his Wiggles CD on and he jumped on that mattress for over an hour Everytime I left the room to go and check on Janaya he would scream, I had to sit and watch but at least it was better than him screaming at the front door wanting to get out!

on a rainy day when Ella needs to burn off some energy we take all the cushions (big ones that you sit on) off the couch and throw them in a pile and she jumps on them/off them and rolls around.

also does he like helping you bake?- Ella enjoys this (and licking the bowl at the end)

Bizzy, if we had a public train, then thats where we'd be! chch doesnt have them :/ Unfortunatly we dont have friends where we are. Stupid clicky towns.

I ended up dragging him along to my MW appt and to the vet when the dog had to go so he was slightly amused. I hope the weather clears up this afternoon!

If he loves to run around, try putting sports on TV - maybe he'd like to watch other people run around too.....?

I occasionally let DS watch TV (if he is sitting on us) but will only let him watch sports and good music. Everything else is rubbish.... hehehe

We pull out the exciting things on rainy days (which is a LOT here)... other toys that have been put away, ride on bike thing, drawing table, bubbles, making huts under chairs and blankets and having picnics with toys, I get out a plastic tray and Chloe likes playing with water in cups, dress-ups, making pizza (Chloes loves eating things as well as putting them on the pizza), I chase her around the house "gonna getcha", she jumps on our bed , baking, when I need a break I put something she likes on TV (usually something she can dance around to). When I get really desperate for some peace and quiet I give her some frozen milk, yoghurt or banana on a stick to eat Oh, I also let her play with my button collection from my sewing box, which she absolutely loves. Will have to watch out with that once Ollie starts crawling though.

When all else fails we leave the house. I take Chloe to the "free zoo" (pet shop) to look at the fish/birds/puppies/kittens etc... go to the library... meet up with friends... find a kids group to join... chipmunks... kids part of the museum... even whip in to the Macca's playground.
