Is it possible to get a nanny to work pretty much whatever hours you like? or do they require to work set hours/times?
I could ring a nanny agency but I am lazy, hate talking to people and thought you guys would probably know more anyway.

I was looking at getting 1 from Porse (I think) & it was just to do every 2nd week from about 2-5pm ish, they did not have a problem with that & it depends on who is avaible. I did not do it in the end.

We have one on a friday for a few hours more to get Emily use to having a wee bit of time away from us before the new baby arrives. She dose work for an angency but is also a volunteer ambulance officer which is how i know her, she is pretty flexable and has done quite alot of varied hours for families over the years i think it just comes down to what suits you and your nanny. Some will be more available that others.

I used to nanny for a lady who worked from home but also spent time out and about with clients etc. I was promised at least 35 hours a week pay but no set hours, sometimes I worked more sometimes less. (of course if I worked more I got paid for them!) I would sometimes even work a split day eg 7am-10am then 2pm-6pm. I didnt get paid for the hours in between. I was very flexible and happy to work like this but I know a lot of nanny friends said there was no way they could work like that so I guess its just something you would work out before they signed on the dotted line so to speak.

Ring the Nanny Company to see what they're like, that's who MIL is probably going through and they seem to be pretty good as an agency (but have no idea what they charge).

I have a rough idea of what they charge, I had a nanny for four weeks cos I broke my elbow back in October and couldn't look after the boys with just my left arm working. I know how much the nanny was getting paid so I would guess maybe $2-3 on top of that for the agency fees. Maybe more.
The charge strangely enough isn't too much of an issue as it would only be to cover a few hours between Dh leaving for work and me getting home and vice versa, it's whether they would cover the hours I want.
Oh well, I applied for the job anyway so we will see, might not get it and then I won't need to worry about it.

I used to nanny for a family before I got preg. They live on a dairy farm so during milking I would start at 5am and get the 5yr old up and feed and take her to school then some days I would pick her up from school and feed and bath her in the evenings. I also did all day during the school hols and some evenings. Also did housework for them as well.
I hated it but needed the money.

Boys in home carer has said she can do the early starts for us, she is awesome and so that just leaves the evenings which will be much easier to sort as just need a babysitter as won't be leaving till boys have gone to sleep.
Now lets just hope I get the job.
