hi girls :)
Just a quick question for those of you who have had this done.. We're wanting to have my tubes tied when I have the elective for this baby - are there any criteria that you have to fit into or whatever, or when I see the OB at 36wks do I just say that I want it done and there'll be no hassles? My MW has no idea so I thought i'd ask you lot!
TIA

I believe you have to fit a certain criteria as my best friend tried to get one a few months back and got declined as she didn't 'score enough points' and she is a mum with 3 children

I had an emergency ceasarian (although didn't feel like emergency) and discussed when we made the decision to ceasar that I wanted a tubel ligation (tubes tied) OB never seemed to think I couldn't have one and never asked me questions etc.... Although i am 37 and Elodie was my 4th child so probably would make a difference.

i pm'd Four_eyes and she's had no problems with organising getting hers done so fingers crossed I wont have problems with getting mine done! Birth control doesnt agree with me and I cant afford anything else plus we DONT want more kids.

I had this done after Anthony's birth in November. I had jokingly mentioned to my midwife that if I ended up with a c/s (not ever thinking that I would) I wanted it done. When the time came they asked if i still wanted it done, asked me a couple of questions to make sure I was really prepared for it and then did it. I had no problems at all. Does the criteria actually apply in this situation? My surgeon was amazing - he also noticed a couple of cysts on my ovaries and popped his head over the curtain part way through and asked if I wanted him to get them 'while he was in there'.
My SIL wants to get it done now that her family is complete but doesn't meet the criteria either even though they have 5 kids!

I was offerred it if I had an elective with my second pregnancy (which I did, but we weren't 100% sure on no more kids then) or told I could have one if I had another bub as I'd have to have a c section. Didn't seem to be any criteria, I am in my mid-30s though. I'd think there would only be criteria for the op if you were having it alone, not as part of a c section.

They asked me at my booking in appt with OB......it had never crossed my mind so i was a bit put on spot so said no anyway, but even when i was about to have surgery at least two other people (surgeon and nurse etc)asked me if i was going to have them done. must have something to do with it being my 3rd csection they were keen for me to be "fixed" . but im not ready to have that door close even though we most likely wont be having anymore....but with 3 boys i think i like the idea of the possibility of a girl even if it doesnt eventuate

Perhaps its a maternal age thing? I got asked by my ob if I wanted mine done when I met her a hour or so before the op. For me it was a definite no.
