My eldest daughter will be 3 next week and we are well under way with the party plans. I was wondering if it is necessary to play party games or are they still a bit young. I know that once we start down the party game path there is no turning back so am quite happy to put it off for another year or so if we can without seeming like lame parents.
It's also a bit the same with loot bags, they seem to be all the rage but are they really necessary? Any tips most welcome 
P.S. We will have around 8-10 children ranging from 20 months- 5 years and the party is at our house, if that makes a difference -------------

Loot bags are def not needed!
We had DS 2nd in Novemnber and we played games as it was just an easy way of filling in time. Just did a treasure hunt (I printed out A4 pictures of animals and hid in the garden) and pass the parcel. As I say filled in time as 2 hours can be a long time for some kids to play nicely without help. -------------

i only do 5th birthday parties so may not be much help... but i would definitely forego the loot bags with that many guests. games, pass the parcel is good and if you want you can exend it out by putting a lillipop or something small in each layer. maybe a game of tiggy for the bigger kids. or if its hot get them to bring togs and play with the hose. ------------- http://www.myfitnesspal.com/weight-loss-ticker">

| the only reasons I would buy loot bags is to have somewhere to put the pieces of cake I would give away. Cause generally they won't eat it. and then you are left with piles of cake covered in fluoro icing. |

Loot bags Hell no!!!!! lol!!! I also wouldn't do games! Their attention spans are just not up to it and the parents end up "playing" for them! Make the most of not having htem! If you really wanted to, you could do a treasure hunt or running races, but I wouldn't. We did pass the parcel at Jakes 4 yo party and even then it was a bit hit and miss. Miss three has her party in a fortnight and all I'm doing is inviting a hepa of kids, may get some stuff from the toy library, and we are doing cupcakes this year so they cantake that and a balloon home. I didn't even play games at my four year olds party but we had it at a playground so thats a bit different. Maybe have simple games for some of the kids if they want. You could have a Pinata especially if theres going to be older kids who can do all the hard work lol.
I do loot bags and put bubbles (you can get a huge pack for about $5 from the warehouse), stickers and a balloon. I kinda feel its nice for the birthday kids to take something home. |

bubbles ! man, even I could play with bubbles for hours, the way they float, and pop and how you can catch them ...*sigh* , they amuse kids , and myself , for hours -------------

| Yeah it's hard keeping their attention for long. At Alyssa's 3rd birthday party with friends we had pass the parcel and a pinata.. If you don't have tons of kids pass the parcel is ok, but the pinata was great in terms of older kids having a blast whacking it! The smaller ones weren't going to break the thing, but they had fun trying :) |
