Topic: An OHbaby! Round the Bays team!

Subject: An OHbaby! Round the Bays team!
Date Posted: 03 February 2010 at 2:33pm
A few of the July '08 mums discussed getting together as a group to walk/run the Round the Bays, and the OHbaby! team are discussing the possibility of an official OHbaby! team.

Bring your baby in a buggy, or come sans children, walk or run - it's up to you. I've had a chat to Katherine and she's sure we can rustle up some spot prizes for participants.

We'd need to know numbers etc. to know if it's a viable possibility, and if we go ahead, we'll get t-shirts made up etc.

So who is keen? Details are as follows:

DATE14 March 2010]
TIME 9:30 A.M.
START on Quay St, between Tinley St and the Strand Overbridge (no public access via the Overbridge)
FINISH at Vellenoweth Green, St Heliers Bay
DISTANCE 8.4 kilometres
COST $15

More information is available http://roundthebays.co.nz/default,7,about-the-run.sm - here .

As a walker - I'm in, a perfec excuse to get the running/walking shoes out of the closet!

Anyone know how long it would take to walk this as I haven't done it before (as to whether i take the boys or not) - would there be any room for a double buggy?

The road is closed so there is plenty of room (although obviously loads of people).

It takes (at a stroll) probably 40 mins? (sorry ive only ever run it so im not sure, but thats my guesstimate.)

Just found this lil tidbit on the website:

Can I push my child in a pram?
Yes, prams are permitted. We recommend entrants with prams start toward the back of the pack and keep to the left of the course.

Oh and the 40 minutes is from the startline, you usually have to walk 10 minutes to get to the startline!

only 50 minutes, I don't believe you (well i do I just thought it would take longer).

I may just get dropped off without the boys (or carpool?) which would make life a bit easier me tinks.

It's 8K. I normally walk at about 6-7KPH so it takes me over an hour.

I'm thinking I'll do it sans toddler. I can't see her being happy to stay in the pram for at least an hour! and last thing I want is to be wrangling a grumpypants squirmy kiddiwnkle but i know other babies will be happy to stay put.

I'm doing it sans children (or at least sans child) .. Issy wont be impressed with being in a pram for that long .. but I may have Elias it just depends on the babysitters.

I may be keen ... definitely not with children, and I'll be walking with the nanas/like a nana!! haha. Will check my diary ... (few weddings on around then) ....

I walked it a few years back and think it took about 55mins from memory, I started pretty close to the start line though.

I could hopefully be in...also sans child. All depends on wether or not DH is around or not...which is usually unlikely at that time of year.

Based on my experience on walking the Welly one last year with the double buggy. If you're a fast walker then try to get to the front of the walkers.

I found it sooo frustrating trying to walk quickly while trying to weave through people 'strolling'

Tishy I'd find that annoying too - I am a fast walker and hate being 'stuck' behind people. I really want to take the kids and buggy but think for this one they would be best left out...
