Hi all
I have just been given a cane bassinet by my dps grandmother. It's a family heirloom that been used by her children, her grand children and now her grand children's children!
Anyway last time it was used was about 4 years ago and it's been sitting under the house since then. She left it outside for about 4 days, one of which was raining but she's told me I will need to clean it.
My questions are... What is the best way to clean cane without damaging it?
She said I should use janolla and then hose it and leave it in the sun to dry. Is it ok to do this?
Thanks in advance

What about hot water and good old sugar soap then just give a good rub and wipe over with that? I don't know if i would hose it - might wreck it.

I just looked up google and found this:
Wash the furniture with a clean cloth dipped in warm soapy water. A brush may be helpful to get into areas that are harder to reach.
Rinse the furniture with clean water, making sure to eliminate all soap, which could later turn into residue.
Wipe the furniture dry with a clean, dry towel and set the furniture in the sunshine to dry completely.
another site:
Dirty or grimy cane can be cleaned with a mild detergent in warm water. Use a soft cloth or a soft brush to remove grime. Be careful not to damage the wood surface during the cleaning. Rinse the cane and let the seat dry naturally. Do not use the piece for 48 hours to prevent it from being stretched. Mold or mildew can be removed with a solution of bleach in warm soapy water. Keep the solution off of the wood frame. Rinse the cane and dry outside on a warm day.
