I keep writing responses to posts and then deleting them as know that they are grumpy (probably true but not very nice!).
Do other people do this? Or get fricken frustrated with things on here!

Hmmm, nope you're not alone - I often get my grump on, write things, then backspace and rewrite, and it still sounds harsh but it's a lot nicer than what I was going to put in the first place!

Yep... I often write whole replies then delete, or better yet, shut the laptop and walk away because I have realised my replies are probably not what some people want to hear and I can't be faffed getting into a scrap over it.
So no you're not the only one

I sometimes delete what I was originally going to post as I know I haven't articulated it well enough so there is a high chance someone will take offense.
Or sometimes I will just post it, then come back and delete or change it quickly before anyone replies cause I lose my nerve
Not very often though.

i dont see why we all walk on eggshells about not offending someone... cause even if you dont try to offend you just might anyway. (which is what always happens to me, when i am being nice i get flamed, when i'm not no one seems to care !) there is always going to be someone who wont like what you have to say no matter how nicely or gently you say it. Boards are open to misinterpretation - its just the way it is...
AND what does it really matter if ms joanne bloggs doesnt like what you have to say. at the end of the day what she thinks doesnt matter...
This of course doenst mean we need to be rude and swear at each other and make mean jokes - its not trade me after all!

geeez Amber, you can just say it to my face !!! :-P
I occasionally read a post or comment and laugh , but they don't tend to make me angry , if its something I don't believe or agree with , I mostly laugh at everyone and feel reminded of how great I am :-D

I tend to write something then realise it doesn't quite sound right and probably comes off a bit offensive or grumpy so I usually try to reword it but yeah... I mainly try not to post harshly because I haven't been on here for long.
Plus there are those that do speak their mind and then get attacked for it... Even if it might be true...

Totally agree which is why i tend to stay away from the 'heated' threads! I do applaud anyone that says wat they think, without trying to appease anyone, or be overly PC.
I do try and go by the mantra that if I can't say anything nice then I don't say anything at all.....but sometimes that means i sit here and roll my eyes, then have to walk away!

It annoys the crap out of me when people start a thread asking for opinions then get antsy when its not the opinion they want to hear, they should just state at the beginning of the thread that only those that have the same feelings as them should post.

oh , that does annoy me too , people need to say what opinions they are wanting to hear ! and if you ask for advice on a forum with people having different opinions, generally you are going to get responses you don't like , its just part of the fun of the *spooky voice " intternnnnettt worrrrlllddd "

I'm not changing who I am, I'll say what I think especially if the OP asks for an opinion ....after all it's a public forum and if you put yourself out there, well you're going to get mixed opinions.. and you should be able to handle that.
Also this forum is very tame compared to another one I frequent.

I try not to get involved in the heated debates, cos usually I don't have enough time to really articulate what I want to say and again often don't have time to come back and respond or continue the conversation/debate. I tend to be quite opinionated, so mostly just come here for advice and support.
I too don't like it when people get offended by advice when they have asked for it, but sometimes I do see the odd thread get out of hand when the OP has only been having a vent or looking for some friendly support, and sometimes that saddens me.
It happened a couple of times to me when I was having the rough time with Jackson. And while I don't for a second think that anyone was deliberately trying to be hurtful, at the time I genuinely thought my world was ending and some of the comments really stung. So, I try to be considerate of feelings as well as maintaining my opinion.

I write out a big post then end up re-reading it and it doesnt even make sense ive tried to type it so fast but it doesnt have to be heated for me to do that hehe. Sometimes i do change what ive said thinking its a bit tough to something more namby pamby and if im having a bad day or enjoying the thread i might make it a bit more controverstial and stir the pot
Normally it takes me so long to get a post down after being distracted or having mind blanks there have been 6 more posts in between and everyone is happy and singing again and i just look like a cow that wont drop it so end up editing before anyone replies.
A freeze all replies until ive said my piece button would be nice
I tend to look at the heated threads as entertainment mostly tho so they dont bother me i just hate it when people wont even consider another opinion is possible IYKWIM.

The only thing that bugs me really is when a thread has gotten heated, people have come and lightened it up through singing, The Hoff, jokes etc. and then 5 minutes later someone comes in and stirs up the pot again. Like they're seeking out the drama.
Sometimes it's best not to poke the bear.
I used to like to watch the odd out of control thread but sadly it's getting so commonplace these days I'm kind of over it.
Especially since those who are more outspoken seem to keep getting personally attacked (and nope this isn't a pointed comment or a reference to anything in this thread so please please don't get upset)
ETA: and that first sentence was general too - I wasn't referring to the recent threads.
Geez I put a lot of disclaimers in things

Meh, I get tired of nastiness, I just give these threads a wide berth for most of the part. There have been heated threads as long as I remember OB, but there kind of seems to be less of a point to them lately, IYKWIM?
I love a decent debate, and actually find them helpful. It just doesn't strike me as difficult at all to disagree and not be catty about it.
I tend to think nasty things sometimes, but I don't post them. I figure with one half, it's not going to make a difference, and with the other, they didn't mean to come across that way and I'll hurt their feelings.
ETA that I love the 'lightening up'. Some of you guys have brilliant senses of humor I wasn't blessed with one myself, so I can't think of anything clever to join in with, but you crack me up.

Most of the threads that get complained about recently aren't even heated, they are barely even luke warm and I rarely see it get personal.
I actually don't think OB is bitchy, certainly no more than it has ever been, just lately everyone seems to be more sensitive.
Personally if everyone starts just writing what people want to hear and all agreeing with each other on everything I will throw up and leave.
I come here to have some adult conversation, albeit through a computer, and adult conversation means conflicting opinions. Some things can't be worded nicely no matter how hard you try and some one who disagrees with you will most likely always take offence no matter how hard you try to flower it up.
I'm also over threads about "heated" thread.
*sigh*

someone said bring back the good old days of OB...
Well i dont think they were any different. threads would get heated, people would get upset about heated threads and certain people and complain about it then someone would post a thread about how bad OB was. then someone would post how it was so horrible and they were leaving and then everyone else would say no dont go. then there would be a thread about being PC and not posting what you really wanted cause you didnt want to offend someone and the thread about how it is hard to get across your meaning in the internet world cause you cant see facial expressions etc... and then it would be all quiet for a while with no interesting stuff happening and every one walking on tip toes... and then... the circle would begin again, and it will again and again.

I don't mind debates but I get sick of pointless mud-stirring where something goes around and around in circles and ends up a long way away from the OP.
So basically, I agree with Bobbie - if it's cooled down, just leave it be.

This made me crack up. Good sentiment
Whomever said that the 'heated' threads often seem not to have much of a point these days - I totally agree. Some of them really don't warrant the amount of upset that seems to be caused.
Not like the good ol' Circumcision, smacking, immunisation, gender prediciton etc. threads
I do think there seem to be more people who are joining OB just to make comment on a particular thread rather than joining to meet other parents and discuss many subjects and be part of a community.

Ooooh maybe we've uncovered a new phenomenon (sp???) and just like in Halls of Residence etc we've all aligned our menstral cycles so are all witchy and grrr at the same time! I caught myself out yesterday infact 'stiring the pot' (on another forum) but lucky enough had enough wits about me to re-read the OP and realise I'd gotten the wrong end of the stick, plus PMT meant my reply was a bit off. I do heartly agree however that it would be really nice, as another confrontation IRL avoider, to be able to freely state my opinion on a matter and not be shot down for it when it doesnt coincide with what the OP wants to hear.

I love a good debate and love the debate threads. I actually think everyone has got a lot better at keeping it on topic and not getting personal. I'm sure they used to get a lot more personal than they do know which is awesome. If people can't handle it just lurk then. It actually really annoys me when people post about how bitchy it is and people need to be nicer. Very rarely do I think people are nasty, they just have a better argument which annoys people.
In saying that I don't have enough time to say what I want and then be able to keep coming back to back up what I say so some of the time I don't bother.
I hate the big whiney 'I'm leaving' posts for attention.

Oh, I so agree. To be fair, I've never seen one on these boards (may have missed any that have actually eventuated). But I've seen them on other forums and they make me feel like saying 'Ok, then, have a nice life", pretty much, even if I agreed with the persons stance!

Me three if you want to leave then just go - if people really cared or missed you they'd get in touch.
I've taken a few breaks from OB over the years as some of this TTC stuff really does my head in but I don't make a big song and dance about it I just don't come on. easy

Thanks :-) , I find it easier to express myself with humor rather than arguing, I don't have the energy for it and would give up too quickly .

i tend to type it out in my head and think "oh god no il get the chop for that 1!" the responses i type in my head are easy to understand no misinterpreting! .... like "get a grip"..."get over it!"..."stop being a sook!" ...."stop being a drama queen"lol....so yeah ..... |
i dont see why we all walk on eggshells about not offending someone... cause even if you dont try to offend you just might anyway.
My thoughts exactly
