Each state is different but here in QLD we call them a child health nurse and they provide the same service as plunket. I personally think plunket is better with the facilities it offers.

Health insurance is nearly a must have here, more for dental, optical, physio etc. If you dont have it you pay through the roof (not subsidised or funded by the govt unless you go through the hospital system).

Here is some websites that may give you some information.

http://www.health.wa.gov.au/livingwa/home/moving.cfm - WA Health

http://wa.gov.au/governmentservices/aboutwa/movingtowa/ - WA State Govt

Depending on income you may be eligable for Family tax benefit which is the same as WFF and is worked out on an estimate of income over the financial year (July to June). See http://www.centrelink.gov.au/ - Centrelink or Family Assistance Office

HTH. What other kind of info are you after? Happy to help.

How exciting!!!! DH and I are planning on moving next year, bit scarey with bebe's in tow! Rianna has answered your question pretty well so not much else to add....

I can get these thing subsidised here????? Please tell me where.... On a side note if you do have health insurance you can claim it on your tax return....

I think much like plunket, it depends on the particular one you are attending as to how good they are in terms of what is available outside your normal scheduled check ups....

Where abouts in WA are you going to be moving too? We moved back from Perth almost 2yrs ago. I know its a long shot but i would highly recommend a daycare.........if you plan on using one.........

Getting signed up to medicare as soon as possible is a good idea also. But you have to prove to them your planning on living in Australia. Medicare gives you subsidised docs visits etc......regardless of how much you earn

I cant actually think of anything helpful.........and im sure theres tons of things i should be able to tell you.......i know lots about how to find NZ food in perth........lol.......and NZ beer

Yes, they have a 'Child Health Nurse' here (CHN), just like plunket.
Kids under 5 (or 6?) are usually free to see the dr and get imms but I have had a dr try to charge me $90 once for Jody's imms, grrrr, but we talked our way out of that one!
Oh! One really exciting thing is, you get all your tax back at the end of the first tax year!! It's crazy but oh so glorious!
Like the others said, organise medicare cards asap so you get discounted dr visits.
There is a great website I relied on when we made the move over http://www.movingtoaussie.com/page0.php - HERE it's for moving to gold coast but a lot is relevant to WA.
Where in WA are you moving to?

Ooh we lived in Kalgoorlie in WA for a year and now we are over in North Queensland and I have to say that the facilities will vary depending on the size of the town! Where we are now, there is not a hang of a lot of support but there is a child health nurse who comes out every week. In Kal, they had good facilites but it was a bigger town servicing the mining communities.

One thing that totally sucks about WA is that they don't have sunday trading in most of the towns (unless tourist precinct) and you might be surprised at how early shops close haha! good ol' WA. Oh yeah..and no daylight savings either.

wow - us too we head across to Perth early April - we haven't told many people yet as I don't want work to find out until I hand in my notice. Where in WA are you heading too?

One reason we are going is so I can be a SAHM with my DD but just in case I do a few hours can you let me know the name of that Daycare Chickielou (sorry to threadjack)

DH is going into the mines FIFO so it is going to be hard but I do have my brother there - also in the mines though and an old friend.

Hi
We are going to be living in Port Hedland or more likely south hedland as rent is cheaper there and just down the road. Hubby has a job delivering fuel into the mines....keep that info flowing!

Anything to make things easier.....
