Me and DP are going to Christchurch on thursday for 3 nights. We will be staying at the Rydges (which i believe is right in town) so just looking for things to do and also where the good malls are

The Gondola is worth a visit, Riccarton is good mall, things we did when DH and I were there on hols were Orana Park, the Antarctic centre, day trip over to Akaroa, I loved shopping in Ballantynes lovely store. Wigram airforce museum.
Went to science alive with my nieces that's all I can think of.
We stayed out at New Brighton where the guy does the sand art.

OMG Riccarton (Westfields to be hoity toity) is now a TWO STOREY MALL! When did THAT happen??? My first visit in two years and wah-la!
Just head into the central city and definitely check out Ballantynes department store - sooooo awesome (and a bit pricey I have to say, but you can be surprised as well!). Head over to Lyttelton if here on a Saturday and look at the Farmers Market - the port itself is about to go through major overhaul so it's nothing brilliant ATM. Head into the Square in the city and check out the Town Cryer, or go for a punt on the Avon. Awesome cafes and bars everywhere! All the malls on the outer city are fabulous as well - and there are cinemas everywhere. Drive up over the Port Hills and do the round the bay thing and come back through Lyttelton's tunnel. That's all the touristy kind of stuff anyway.
If you are after nice walks etc there are heaps and heaps, we aren't just about flatness down here you know! I am sure the hotel you are staying at can help you decide what to do :)

Oh and the best mall - if you are clothes shopping/sunglasses/etc - Dress Smart in Hornby! Otherwise I recommend getting on the Orbiter bus (bright green) and doing the circuit of malls on that.

I went about 2 years ago, I definitely recommend going to Akaroa if you get a chance, the scenery along the way is so beautiful...
I stayed in Riccarton, can't remember how far it was from town, but the mall was really good I thought.
TBH I really enjoyed just walking around the square where the church was... I'd have loved to have gone to the Antarctic Centre, we drove past it leaving the airport but forgot to go back!
