DH and I are planning a romantic night in Aitutaki and wonder if anyone could recommend a great hotel. We're looking at the Pacific Resort or Rarotogan... has anyone been. Is it worth going/staying at one of the pricey resorts?

Hrm, maybe a bit soon. I really can't pop until June 2011 when I'll have been back at work for a year. But who knows...

Are you staying in Rarotonga? Or Aitutaki?
I've stayed at the Rarotongan in Raro. When I was growing up in Raro it was the 'IT' place (early 80s). But when I went back in early 1998 it seemed kinda neglected. The Edgewater Resort was much nicer then.
I've stayed at Aitutaki Lagoon Resort as a child. It was nice enough from memory. It was also the only hotel as such on the island at that time.

if raro then the rarotongan beach resort is divine....and edgewater is close second best! dont be fooled thinking club raro is same standard tho!. Muri beach is lovely too....
if you are doing aitutaki then go to the sister resort for rarotongan B R....expensive trip (like $200 return each for flights and more for a night there!) tho...

We're spending 6 nights in Raro at Pacific Resort but we've got family coming too so would love to shoot over to Aitutaki. Realise it's going to be pretty costly for a night, so just wondering whether its worth it. We'd prromised ourselves we'd go so decided when ppl are in Raro to look after bubs its teh idea opportunity

I suggest the Rarotongan - over in Aitutaki - loved it
we stayed at both
just make sure you can get the flights over first before you book
I love Raro - have fun
DH and i are hoping to go back in 2011 with bubs

Yay good on you aitutaki is absolutely gorgeous!
We got a package deal including flights and stayed at Sawadee on the beach. We had our own little bungalow type thing with aircon etc. Not flash or fancy but was nice. I loved Sawadee though and the staff were great.
While you are in Aitutaki I recomend booking onto one of the boat cruises (can't remember who we went with) but they take you all around the smaller islands, cook up a feast, take you snorkelling etc. Great fun.
Oh and I just remembered we went to the island night at Sawadee too. It;s a big feast of island food and music. There is drums etc and dancing. On the night they asked for 10 couples to volunteer to come and dance and DF dragged us up lol. We got a beautiful lei for it though. Very special :)
Oh and it is worth it but I'd extend to 2 nights if you can! See what sort of package you can get including your flights.
