A friend of ours has a little girl called Addison.

Everyone thinks that Jade is a boy because of her name

I've only ever known of female Addisons (think Grey's/Private Practice).

But i think it could work for a boy..

I think historically its a boys name but I've never heard of a boy Addison although there are lots of girls named it. I LOVE it as a girls name - if Alex was a girl he would hvae been Addy

an OB mum has a girl called Addison ( I suggested it back when she was preg :-D)

I've always thought of it as a girls name, but it may have originally been a boys, my name (Kelly ) was originally a boys name

Either in my book. Our DD has a gender neutral name (well, prob more of a boy's name - LOL). I heard about a wee girl called Kennedy today and I thought it was a wicked name. I also like Harper for a girl....

Just a point that you may be interested in; girls with names that are traditionally 'male' names are more successful in business/employment.

I know a wee boy called Addison, it really suits him.

I remember I found it weird the first time I heard of Elliot as being a girls name, as I'd only heard of it for boys.

It was probably originally a surname or family name, and boys often get referred to by their last name.
I think its a lovely name either way.

My great-niece is Mackenzie. I always wanted it for my girl, but she had her girl first.

I do know a guy called Jade, but a few girls. It's older ladies who assume it is a boy.

I considered the Addison for Morgan (dh wasn't keen). I thought it was a girls name. Also think Jade is definitely a girls name.

But what do I know ... since calling my daughter Morgan (thinking it was a girls name) lots of people have told me its a boys name or asked if shes a boy?!

He, he, he - this is my DD's name! I love it - she gets called Lotti or Elli - both really 'girly' names.

Now days I think it gets used more as a girls name but it always make me think of Addison's disease sorry!

Traditionally it was a boys name given that it means "son of Adam".

As for Jade, that's definitely a girl's name!

Well I prefer it as a girls name but I could be bias haha

When we were pregnant with Addison we heard of 2 boys called Addison but none since although that could be cos of Greys and Private Practice..

Since having Addison Ive only seen girls in the birth notices and there is also another wee Addison at her daycare but they spell it Adisen which Im not to keen on.

Its funny but Im not overly keen on Maddison (sorry to anyone who has called their child that name) but I still love the name Addison. I love saying her name, I love hearing her name and we get lots of comments on it but not one person has said they thought it was a boys name.

and thanks again Caitlynsmygirl hehe

I also liked Elliot for a girl but DH didnt

Great Thread! Its funny reading what people think are boys names and girls names.

I know a male and female Jade but automatically think male when I hear it.

Again I know a male and female Morgan but always think of a girl.

Only know girl Addisons and can only really associate it with a girl.

I know one of each for McKenzie to but always thinks of it as a girls name.

LOVE Elliot for a girl but DH vetoed it.

Cameron and Brodie are def boys names to me too.

Sorry if I have offended anyone....but hey I can hardly talk as I have weird names for my kids.

Addison is my great uncles name. It was originally a male name (Scottish I think), but I do agree that I think it is a lovely little girls name. On the whole I'm not too keen on the surname as first name thing though.

Maybe I just like unisex names, Ive seen Kobe on a girl but spelt Khobi and he would have been that girl or boy.
Seems like its all older males called Addison and its become a feminine name.

I love the name Addison for a girl........ couldn't picture it on a boy tho. But I think that is cause of private practise.
Jade IMO is definately a girls name, never heard of a boy being named Jade.
Morgan - to me it has always been a boys name as I know a guy named Morgan. Even seeing a female Morgan on Shorty St didn't change that for me lol
I'm a real fan of unisex names. I loved Elliot, Cameron, Raegan, Riley etc for our wee girl but DF is quite traditional and wanted a 'girly' name. He liked Sophie, Katie, Ella and Olivia which I liked but wasn't over the moon about them cause they are all quite common now so we ended up settling on Isla. It's girly, but still fairly unique these days. Plus it is an anogram of my name, Lisa
