Is anyone aware that you can get these for the car? For adults, not children. I googled a bit but couldnt find anything in NZ! the seatbelts in my new car are really short (damned japanese cars) and the belt isnt going to fit round the bump for much longer! cant go under as well because of the c-section apron and it's not comfy.

I wonder if you popped down to VTNZ if they could help? or if you tried ringing a few mechanics?

How do they work? I've never heard of them before... Would you have to get one specific for the type of car you have? e.g BMW, Toyota etc?

I looked for something to extend seatbelts when I could not fit a car seat in my car but had no luck. I know you can get your seatbelts replaced so I am sure they could fit longer ones, but it could be expensive.

Another thought would be to pop into Repco, they're usually car enthusiasts and rather helpful.

I did find a website that sells them, but they're $69.95! good grief. I'll try repco etc.

I dont want to get the whole belt replaced - its only for during this pregnancy.. i'll be fine afterwards :D

Baby City at Tower Junction has them. I can't remember the price, I'm sorry. I actually got the rear seatbelt extended to fit DS capsule by Fiddymont on Brougham Street, Sydenham. If you google Fiddymont, you'll find his website. That also cost $70. Good luck.

Repco and Supercheap sell them but you wont find one much cheaper than $50, I was looking just a few months ago coz our seatbelt wasn't long enough to go around the capsule, ended up just buying a convertible instead.

Okay so i've researched and had a look at stuff and yea it turns out that the extensions are far too expensive.
Does anyone know what the law is regarding being pregnant and no seatbelt on? I'd have to limit my travelling to dropping Thomas off at kindy / supermarket etc and not go anywhere else, but I cant find anything useful on the internet about what I need to know!

Hi MissAngel. Have you spoken to Mike at http://www.fiddymont.co.nz/seatbelts/ - Fiddymont Seatbelts (in Christchurch)?  I contacted him this week to ask whether our rear seatbelt could be extended to fit the new booster seat.  He's sending me an extension thingee for $40, which seems pretty reasonable.  Much cheaper than replacing the entire seatbelt anyway.

Really?? They said to me $60 :/ I'll ring them again and say someone else is getting one for cheaper from them (if you dont mind!)

No I don't mind. It is an adjustable buckle (not sure what it looks like yet) for the seat belt.  He originally quoted $65 for a bolt on extension, which I assume is different. But I then emailed him a photo of the base of the seatbelt and the part number (should be written on a label at the base of the seatbelt - lift up the carseat to see it) and he emailed back to say the cheaper buckle idea should work with that part.

Gosh, I've confused myself lol.  What I'm trying to say is, it might depend on your existing seatbelt as to how much it costs to extend it. Good luck!

Hi there,

I was at plunket today and they have seat belt extensions. I may be wrong but I'm sure they were only $15. The woman told me they were for extending belts for pregnant mothers.

Hope that helps.
