Just watched the news and obviously this story was on:

http://nz.sports.yahoo.com/news/article/-/6798308/luge-crash-death-overshadows-games-big-day - Accident

But I think was shocked me was they showed the whole thing, his entire run down including the moment were he was flung out like a doll and obviously died pretty quickly. Since there was no warning before they showed it, I was just a bit surprised it was so graphic.

Its a terrible accident in a very dangerous sport - i'm just not sure we needed to see it. I always think of the families in stuff like this, they will be able to watch this which must be awful.

I saw it too and totally agree that it was in bad taste to show it on the news with no warning and in all the ads for the news tonight! So so sad, I cried!

We had been watching the opening of the Winter Olympics on sky & had also seen the early times for the ski jumps.

We heard about the accident on the opening ceremony & it was very sad.

I did not see it on the news, I was bring in the washing & my 9yrs old came & told me what he saw, I was shocked.

I don't think they need to show the graphic images on the news....they should show respect for his family, memory & team.

If you were to see the images when it happened because it was live broadcast then that is different, but a planned broadcast is just bad taste. it was a tragic event don't need to build ratings off it or rubber neck it.

If they feel the need to show someone dying maybe they can wait till the late news. I would not stay up for it

TV3 did warn reasonably strongly before showing it, but agreed, it was a bit much. They DEFINITELY didn't need to show the people doing CPR...

His poor family, imagine seeing your sons last moments over and over again, its terrible.

I agree, I can't believe they showed it.

I thought it was a bit sick that on the news tonight they had a journalist go for a ride down a similar slope and at the end the guy got up and said "that is the BEST thing I've done in my life!"...thought that was a bit ill taste!

I was a bit shocked at how graphic it was too, despite the warning.

I think, out of respect for the family, there should be a ban on screening a persons death whether it's on the news or youtube or any other way.

I heard the warning that it was graphic but I never thought they would actually show the death. I don't think that needed to be shown on tv.

I was pretty shocked too that that was shown, I too was thinking about his family. I dont think they needed to replay it that many times!

I was discusted that they showed it! More than once as well! They showed it again last night. I mean, cmon, the poor guy died. Give him some dignity. And his poor, poor family. They must be truly devestated (sp?).
Was reading the CHCH Press newspaper yesterday and they have photos of it! Like snapshots from when he first got flung from the luge thing right through to where he died. It's sooooooo wrong!
