I've got a nasty vicious headache I seem to get them a bit lately, I've heard that sometimes happens when you're pregnant. But it's getting a bit frustrating - I've had it four days, and had to take one and a bit of them off work (I know... taking a day off work for a headache sounds so pathetic!). But it really is nasty, and it seems to be setting my MS back off too (vomiting + headache = no fun!).
Like I told DH - it makes me feel really stink. And I feel stink because I can't kill it with drugs. And I can't kill it with drugs because we're having a baby. And that's fantastic! So in the big picture, who cares.
In the little picture, though - is there any miracle cure for preggy headaches I'm missing? I'm willing to try just about anything!

I took Kel's advice when I had nasty headaches when I was pregnant with Callum - it really does help!!!
I ate lots and LOTS of apples as well (craved them for the first 16 weeks or so).
The other thing that helped me a lot later (once the apple juice didn't work any more) was going to yoga. I ALWAYS felt way better after my prenatal classes.
Things you could try - child pose with your head resting on a cushion, leaning back against a wall with a big cushion behind your back so you're more reclined than straight up ... d@mn can't remember any more right now sorry
Hope the apple juice helps though

That reminded me for my 2nd preg I ate apples rather than drank the juice. So either way helps.

Well, apples are a new one on me... so I'm heading out to get some juice asap Thanks!
Panadol doesn't do a lot, WRX, but then it never really did before I was pregnant either. If it's still bad on Monday, I'll definitely call into the Drs though.

i had horrible headaches in early pregnancy, one lasted for over 3 weeks, panadol wasn't doing anything at all so i went to the doctor and he gave me some tramadol but told me only to take 1 of them as there isn't really any research into if they are safe in pregnancy or not. the tramadol finally took the edge off the headache enough for the panadol to work.
Try to keep well hydrated as well, being dehydrated is a major cause of headaches cos it reduced the amount of fluid around your brain.

Could be a lack of iron. My headaches went about a week after starting iron pills.

Headache like a migraine??? Dizzyness and can't see? I get migraines all the time. Got them all thourgh PG with Rayn and the only thing that would knock them off was about 4 panadol rapids, over 8 hours or 2 Nurofen migraine pills. ANd of course couldnt' take either of them while PG. SO just rode them out. Drink lots of water. Apples a new one, might try that next time. It might be a dehydration thing. Funny that though cause this time around I haven't had one headache or migraine....

I also got wicked headaches from about 14 weeks to 18 weeks. Just be careful and if you are still concerned you should talk to your MW or GP.

http://www.csti.co.nz/ - Cranial-sacral therapy is safe during pregnancy, and really gentle. My Mum and a friend both swear by this as an excellent method for permanently getting rid of migranes they'd suffered on and off for years. May be worth a try if nothing else works? I looooove having cranial-sacral massage during pregnancy ... gets rid of all the dull aches and back pain etc that develop the bigger bubs gets .

I went through at least a month of headache followed by migraine followed by headache - in the second trimester after thinking I'd got off lightly with being sick in the first. Best thing is accupuncture - just make sure you go to someone who specialises in pregnancy accupuncture. I went to my backup MW's so I knew it was safe, and I can't recommend how wonderful it is. The first time didn't make a difference, but it got better the next couple of times, and the terrible migraines stopped and now I just get slight headaches, but rarely. My doctor said at the first sign of a headache to take panadol, because that would at least help it from getting worse, and if it wasn't a headache, then panadol won't do any harm. I was also prescribed codeine which I only succumbed to once.
Another trick the doctor suggested and I swear this also helps - one icepack on the forehead, but rather than one on the back of the neck, try using a heatpack. Seems to help with any neck tension and is very soothing. Hydration will also help.

Oh actually I've just had a thought. Ginger beer!!! I've never actually treid it, but my friend is a nurse and everytime, we are drinking ginger beer she'd say this is good for headaches. But as I've said I've never actually thought about it at the time.
Oooh kakapo, massage saounds good. I had to have physio one time on my neck to get rid of a headache. and it worked. I was told that problem backs and necks can casue headaches too.

Hopes, sorry to hear you've been having bad headaches. There is nothing whimpy at all about staying at home or talking about it. I suffered some vicious ones where they just wouldn't move and have had to go to A & E to get an injection in my bum (LMAO) to try and ease it off. I hope it gets sorted for you hun.

Yep, I've been suffering headaches too... one a week ago that lasted two or three days and I really should have taken time off work but felt a bit like you, silly that a headache should have that effect!
I know dehydration is a big cause for me, so try really hard to keep a drink bottle of water by me at all times to sip on... not heard of the apples thing before but will also be trying that next time!

It could be your body trying to tell you to slow down. I usually suffer from headaches when I'm tired and/ordehydrated. So slow down, keep well hydrated, take some panadol, have a long bath and put a cold flannel over your forehead and eyes and (once out of the bath) nap if you can.
As an aside did you know that sex can help get rid of headaches? It's something to do with the endorphins released during orgasm - so sorry ladies you can't use the old "but I've got a headache" excuse anymore .

Hopes what about trying a massage therapist it might be coming from your shoulders or your neck often us women carry alit of tension there. You could try doing some gentle exercise as in trying to make your ear touch your shoulder that often helps. Arnica can help too not sure if its OK during pregnancy though so just check up on that. Oh and try having a piece of dark chocolate with the panadol its supposed to help it work also pandol does eventually work you just have to keep taking it every four hours (so i have been told).

I had terrible headaches for awhile, always have had and then got diagnosed with migraines a few years back oh how fun they are.
Acupressure may help, I know there is meant to be a pressure point in your ear lobes that helps with headaches, and also your big toe. Massage is awesome. I had a massage late pregnancy but unfortunately at the time I wasn't sore so it was kind of meh. Where as if I was sore I would have benefited from it alot. Try and rest as much as possible and keep hydrated, put a little bit of lemon/lime into your water it will help your body absorb the water. I lived with about 5bottles of water about the house so wherever I was I had one on hand. Eating right helps, as does panadol apparently.
I tend to sleep mine away if possible sometimes that takes 2days.

Glad to read I'm not the only one... i thought the headaches I get just about ervery afternoon are from my larger boobs putting pressure on my neck... as my neck is really stiff. Might just be a pregnancy "thing" though! They are pretty debilitating and make me really nauseous.

So pleased to have found this thread, have had headaches on and off for the past 5 days with panadol not really cutting it. Will definitely be trying the apple juice recommendation.
