Hiya, not sure if this is the right place to put this , but anywho
False positives ? anyone had one before ? what were they like , did they look exactly the same as a BFP , or were they slightly different, did they disappear ? What brand did you use when you got one ? -------------

Yup had 2... they were dipstick internet cheapies and the lines did fade out over a couple of days to an evap looking line.
I think they are very uncommon on midstreams though.... -------------

Im wondering cos of that clear blue one I did , which is here 
the line hasn't faded at all since I first saw the test , which was thursday night , prob is , I didn't see when it came up (could well have been in the time limit ) and i've had BFNs on first response which makes me wary . Surely one so dark wouldn't be a false positive would it ? -------------

Yeah I would think a false BFP would be no where near as dark and convincing as that!! GL hun! (And I say get a discover if you can... They are great and sensitive, and I dont think I have ever heard of getting an evap or false BFP on them..) -------------

I've always used Clear Blue and never had a false positive. Had plenty of duds where NOTHING comes up (not even the control) though. You can definately get false +ives.. I have had them and had HCGs done and 0 so not chemical pg.
Kelly I dont think its a false though with it that dark, mine were faint... dark enough to know its a line (ie DH could see them) but way lighter than that... Since this pg I no longer believe FMU is alwasy best.. if T has you up during the night and pee and/or drink while you are up then your pee is going to be diluted so even if you have a midstream test I would personally catch your pee in a cup until its nice and dark LOL ALL my HPT's (until about 16DPO) were darker with afternoon pee than fmu... Oh and congrats again -------------

No...Dh wont let me test again til next week lol . He doesn't understand how much fun it is to pee on a stick . ...One that sometimes has symbols come up anyway .... I figure, the chances of it being a false positive are pretty rare and wouldn't be that dark anyway ...it hasn't faded or anything , so im just going to assume it is . Not sure why the other tests came back as BFNs, maybe the clear blue just picked the HCG up earlier ... -------------

I just tested again , with a quick card ,and it was a BFN , so I guess im not UTD.
Surely it would be more likely to get one false BFP than 4 false BFNs . My af is due today , so it wil probably come toorrow , I feel pregnant, but its probably just pms . I wish I hadn't tested again, I feel really crap now , really really disappointed and stupd for getting excited . -------------

quickcards suck bums!! I was 16dpo before I got a bfp with one.... had already got a bfp with first response dip strips 2 days before... If that clearblue was in time limit it looks pretty damn convincing! ------------- mum to 3 lovely girls :D |

Thanks guys, I feel a bit more hopeful , Af is due either today or tomorrow, and its not over til shes here , could be that ALL the tests are wrong ,that the clearblue was a false pos but that the BFNs are just cos I don't have enough HCG in them yet, I didn't get a BFP with Ty til AF was a day late

I found with any of the "Quick" brands I always got false negatives. Thats why I went to the supermarket and bought some of the dipstick ones from there. Can't remember what brand they were but they weren't the Quick ones. They gave me my BFP when I got preg with Mac when nothing else would. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

not really im afraid , did a blood test yesterday , results came back at 2, which ive read enough about to know are negative, even tho the nurse said it wasn't neg and wasn't positive, who is she trying to fool ?
I have to go back tomorrow am , but I really don't see the point *sigh* Geez, we hadn't even planned a baby , and this is definetly not the best time ..so why do I feel so ratsh*t ? -------------

There is HCG there, which is the important part... 2 could just be a really low start level. What's important is whether it increases over time, which is why you need another test to be sure. ------------- Chloe (4 years) and Oliver (3 years). |

The guidelines for hCG in NZ are that anything below 5 is considered negative, however it comes with the disclaimer that it may not discount early pregnancy if the blastocyte has not yet started producing hCG.
at this point, an increase in general would be good, as the increase is meant to be double every 2-3 days, so from a start point of 2, testing the next day, may only mean you rise to 3 (or even 2.5!), and it still may be a VERY early pregnancy. If it rises tomorrow, they may make you wait a week in order to get a better increase to determine a pregnancy (as they are usually confirmed at an hCG of 25). Rambly much? I hope you get the answer you're hoping for. |

SquishysMum has a pretty good description. It's pretty vague and the numbers can vary greatly. But low HCG this early in pregnancy is not a "negative" until it has been shown that it isn't increasing. ------------- Chloe (4 years) and Oliver (3 years). |

Never mind last comment, the nurse just rang, levels haven't increased, so im definetly not pregnant .
Not sure what that line on the test was , pretty F*cking annoying actually , not sure if it was an evap , a dud or a false pos,but either way im not impressed and wont be using clearblue again . Oh well -------------

Im ok , or I will be , Im just a bit bummed, but I know its really not the right time for us . One good thing thats come out of it , is that its made me realise how much I do want another one , might talk to Dh about moving our TTC plans up from December to this june instead :-) For now I will focus on the 2 beautiful children I definetly DO have and look forward to trying for a sibling for them later on .... and hopefully stupid AF will decide to show her face soon !
