My little girl had HF&M while I was pregnant - I actually don't recall even thinking about any complications but alas there were none ;-) It isn't something that adults usually get either - usually only affects pre-school aged children or younger and then they get an immunity.

That's not very considerate of your sister! You'd think she'd no better having been through pregnancy herself! DS had this a while back while a friend of mine was pg and I freaked out and stayed away from her for weeks! I spoke to my dr about it later, bc DS is in creche and I was wondering how to manage the risk of this and 100 other childhood illnesses for me when we were planning #2. He didn't seem to bothered. I *think* it was only a problem if you caught it and apparently it's really uncommon in adults. So hopefully you'll be ok. MAybe tell your MW, just so she can look out for anything? GL

My toddler had this recently while i was preg and yep as above it is very, very rare for there to be any complications. So you can relax!
You do have to deal with a grumpy child though and isolate yourself from others - that is the pain in the arse bit.

Yep I had this whilst pregnant, I was 12 weeks when I got it. My 1 year old didn't even show any symptoms but doc said he prob had it too as children can get it with no symptoms, I however had blisters on my hands and feet and a sore throat (my DH didn't get it either, most likely he had it as a child and was immune, which you might be too). Like you all the info I found said only a problem in last few weeks when you can pass the bug onto newborn. HFM is just a cold virus so it's not really too serious. Rest of my pregnancy went fine and he's now a very healthy nearly 14 month old.
