Well a doctor has just diagnosed my 7 week old as being lactose intolerant.

I dont know anything about it, so am a bit lost as to whether it is something she will grow out of, or if her diet will need to be managed as such as she goes onto solids etc???

Anyone have a baby who is lactose intolerant???
What symptoms did they have???

Any info would be great

Thanks
Lisa

I have one of those! only hes a toddler now.

We just make sure he doesnt have anything with dairy in and we're fine :D He's badly intollerant as well - ANY little tiny mouthful of dairy product and he's got the runs really bad or is vomitting. Its quite easy to control his diet as well. No icecream, no yoghurt, no foods that are milk heavy, etc etc etc :D

Theres a couple of good lactose free formulas out there as well, so you'll have no problem feeding baby.

Jake is, he is growing out of it though and can tolerate dairy now however if he has too much his poos become really runny again...

TBH I would be getting a referral to a paed, mine told me the tests most GPs do are actually misleading and can diagnose a lactose intolerance when it may not be.... not sure what tests your GP did of course.

Its actually easy for FF babies as you can just give them lactose free formula and avoid dairy when introducing solids... be aware if you are planning on using jar foods there is A LOT of the stage 2/3 jars that have dairy in them so you will need to read all the ingredients.

Jakes was caused by a virus affecting his tummy and is finally coming right... true lactose intollerance isnt so common so hopefully it wont be an issue for the future

Oh and Jakes symptoms were excessive mucous in his poo (ie more mucous than poo), constant diarrhoea (up 8 BM a day at his worst) with a direct correlation to if I had eaten dairy prior to the bf, frothy poos, very windy and low weight gain and loss.

Give Nutricia a call & see if they will send you a sample TIN of delact formula. They've been surprisingly helpful with me trying to figure out what Cooper is allergic to.

Thank you!

Baylee had constant poos, runny with bits of like flaky stuff in them, mucous and blood towards the end,.
The gp we saw originally said she had a tummy bug, but the doc I saw at A&E said she believed it to be lactose intolerance because of above symptoms as well as her poor bum being bright red - but looking completely different to a normal nappy rash.

So after 5 days of being on S26 lactose free, she is settled & happy, sleeping for 6-7 hours a night. No nappy rash and normal poos 1-2 times a day!

I will speak with my GP regarding a referral to a paed as I would like to find out more about what we will need to do to see if she will grow out of it or how severe her intolerance is.

thanks again ladies
