So we started the girls on Stage 2 formula around 2 1/2 weeks ago and they have been so amazingly spewy ever since. Not just spills, but actual gag and vomit (with distance ). Jade is worst. She also pretty much refuses to take the majority of the bottle...will start refusing to have it after 60-100ml. Is this normal when going to a new formula, or is Karicare not agreeing with them now that they have moved to the next stage? They have been on Karicare since birth. I don't know what is normal and what isn't!

I also wondered whether maybe their system isn't developed enough to take it...their corrected age is around 4 1/2 months old...

I would jsut go back to the the new born stuff for a bit then try again. Best not to switch brands my emily was on new born till over 8 month's cause I breastfeed her till 6 months did not want to mess with her system.

When we changed Alex to stage 2 he was pretty much the same as your girls and he became really unsettled so we changed back to the from birth formula. We were told that it was fine to stay on that stage and he is still on that stage now at 13 months ( he isn't on cows milk due to intolerances)

Oh thank you Lea! I thought we HAD to change because the newborn doesn't have all of the iron etc that they need (even though they are on an iron supplement and have been since birth), so if we can go back to the newborn stuff it will be so much easier. How did you find out about Alex's intolerances? I am lactose intolerant and hope that the girls haven't picked that up also.

You'd probably find they would have had a reaction to the from birth stuff if they were! Go back to the first stage for a while.. its not going to hurt! Heck, Thomas was on it til 8 months, then the 2nd stage til 14mths. He's still on toddler stuff cuz he cant have cows milk!

I had to change Joel back to the newborn stuff till he was nearly 9 months. Then when we changed from stage 2 to milk I waited till he was 14 months. He just needed more time I think. I tried him aat 6 months and did what your girls are doing, but waiting the extra couple of months made a huge difference, also I took nearly a month to introduce the new formula by doing 3/4 of old 1/4 of new for a week, then half and half for a week etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about moving them up. My old plunket nurse said that it is mostly a marketing thing and most children are fine on the starter formula. Amy was fine with moving at about 9 months and I think we only moved Sophie when she was about 11 months.

We didn't switch C to Stage 2 till about 8 months (or even later, I forget) as well. Even then I reckon it upset his tummy a bit, we introduced it quite gradually over about a week.

We never had any problems but when we did go to stage two we started by mixing stage one and two for about a week and then changed to the next stage.

Not sure what type of bottles you are using but have you changed the flow? We use Avent and did have problems when we changed from one to two and then two to three. Just held off changing them for a while.

Nope, haven't changed the teats at all..we just use Tommee Tippee ones.

I think we are going back to the starter formula. We gave it to them tonight and no spews - yayy!! I think it is also aggravated by them coming down with a cold or something..seems to be snot central round here today and wheezing

Why don't you call the Nutricia helpline & discuss it with them? They have specialist dieticians on the end of the phone for you.
My son Daniel didn't seem to have any problems going from Karicare stage one to stage two. Good luck.

I changed my boy to the Stage 2 at about 6 months and he had bad diarrea (sp?) from the moment he was on it. Doctor said it has more protein in it so that could be the problem? We changed back to Newborn (he's 7 months now) and haven't had a problem since.

Don't want to hijack or anything but what has the peoples babies done when the formula hasn't agreed, just spewy and diarrohea, anything else?

Thanks.

Hope going back to starter works out! :)

Very very spewy for us....as in, projectile vomiting. Plus the runs (although this could also be something to do with their teeth). We've gone back to the stage 1 formula and had no more problems.
