Well I don't know if it's just me, or what. But ever since they've changed the washing powders to 2x strength (supposedly) and half the box size, my washing has been coming out with stains still well and truly attached. I use Surf and have recently tried Fab. I use Napisan soaker in a bucket for big stains, before every wash. Getting exasperated here! Locked in a cycle of soak, wash, dry, soak again etc, with some clothes just going around in a never ending cycle. What products do you recommend that actually WORK? I'm about to go strip my washing machine with a hot water wash, baking soda and white vinegar - but I'm sure we already did that not so long ago. BTW our water supply is from our farm - is filtered rain water so I'm presuming it's not that hard or impure. HELP!! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I use eco store and it is fine with my washing. Now I don't wash nappies on a daily bases I may look at something else. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

I use ecostore too & haven't noticed any problems with stains etc.
How annoying though - as if you haven't got better things to be doing with your time  -------------

I generally use the persil sensitive 2x concentrate, we have a big machine so generally quite large loads and don't put in more than it says to and have not had any problems. If i remember to I might put some sard wonder soap on something that I think will stain but not generally. I think persil is a bit more expensive but just try and stock up when it is on special. I have been trying ecostore on the nappies just out of interest but thinking that persil still gets the stains out better. Oh and we live on a farm too but use well water so not sure if that makes any difference. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I"ve just done a gorcerie shop and bought a cold power, 2x concentrate so will see how that goes. I don't like the price of ecostore, and I find it doesnt' work that well. Also I heard that some eco plant based powders can eat away at your clothes, wool pockets especially. I used surf for ages and then the changed it and I went to ecostore, and the plunket one argh....rack my brains to remmeber what its called. That one was quite good actually, still a bit pricey. Otherwise I'm using Babe's homemade wash for Dh's work gear linen and towels. Thanks guys. Have been wondering about the Persil Concentrate. It's worth paying more if it actually WORKS. We've just had a new house built and with that we have had new filters applied to our water system. Wonder if the filters make the water hard? Going all scientific here! I usually don't chop and change brands very often as I have sensitive skin - but if I go for a "Sensitive" powder then I am usually OK.

I don't use ecostore powder for the same reason sarahbetha said but when I was using it I found it sucked for stains and smells.
We use persil sensitive DP has ezema and DD looks like she's heading in the same direction :) I don't have problems with stains except the odd oily one which I just pop dishwahing liquid on. I've used persil for years and don't bother with the other brands. I use about a half scoop for a normal wash (5.5kg machine) and a whole scoop if the clothes are particually dirty. we get those huge 5kg bags of surf washing powder from TWH.... its normal strength, but i use half a scoop of that, with half a washing powder scoop of Frend OxyAction Max (white container, half the price of Napisan and works better IMO) and my clothes always come out stain free. and look great. used to use the Reflect, and again found it great. i dont bother paying huge amounts of money for washing powder when the cheapest stuff works better lol.
i continusouly have probs with 2x strength stuff aswell, but its more a case of it doesnt dissolve aswell in our machine (its a new machine, but just doesnt like 2x strength) so yeah.... thats my 2 cents lol. |

I make my own works great and cheaper. i hate the smell of store bought ones they too strong. plus daughter has senstive skin. -------------

We use ecostore but I'm having problems with it. The nappies come out fine... It's the baby spillage. The new formula she's on get all over her clothes which is ok, but if I use cloth flats it sometimes comes out of the machine still caked on -------------

we find that surf hasnt been washing out of our clothes since they changed it. have about 5 loads left and then we will move onto persil sensitve as we have 2 big boxes of it.
to clean the washing machine out..how do i do that? i know its a dumb question but hey im 20 and mum always did washing at home.... its looking pretty scungy down the adgitator, like all brown and not nice and white no more 
i remember something about washing a load of Eno's though it but im not sure |

Don't worry I'm the same... I didn't know you had to run the washing machine through empty sometimes.. Mum must have done that stuff when we weren't there.. I used to help with the washing, but Mum would already wash it and we'd hang it out/bring it in and "help" fold it

Put a cup of washing soda down the centre pipey thing. Is that the adgitator?? THe bit where you put washing powder. And wash it on and empty hot wash. Cleans out my machine. Does anyone use liquid detergents?? I know its a big thing over in europe and USA. I've bought liquid Persil Top Loader Sensitive - let's give that a shot! Was tempted to buy their "high performance" one - but what additional chemicals it might have, who knows? I washed the washing machine physically using a pot scrub and a bottle brush to get inside the agitator (it had some sort of schunge in there Would be interested in home made washing powder recipes - I'm going to Bin Inn tomorrow. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I use liquid detergent for baby clothes but since we are in aussie it is prob not the same as in NZ.
I know when consumer did a report on detergent, Reflect was the one that came out on top, cheaper than the others too....that's what i used to use in nz all the time, over here it is called something else... Over in the UK they have these little cbes like dishwasher tablets that you use in the washing machine..they are funky! How do you clean a front loader...like where do you put the cleaning things...I didn't know I was supposed to clean it either and I am 34! hehe. -------------
