Its when they insert catherter and saline into uterus and inflate to do an ultrasound.

THey advise to take the day off- is it that bad??

Given what I've been through with IVF I think it'll be pretty straight forward??

Hi Hope

I have had a HSG (hysterosalpingogram) which sounds similar except they inject a saline/dye into the follopian tubes and take an xray to check for tubal blockages, Itis a little uncomfortable when they insert the catheter and inflate it but the pain wasn't all too bad. I took the day off though and rested for the afternoon.

Thanks

Hi Hope1`,

I have had the HSG xray, same as Jennsta. Sorry to say but I personally found this very painful and suffered for the rest of the day with terrible cramps and felt generally awful.

But like Jennsta, I have heard of others who say it is fine. It may be different for you though, as it was my fallopian tubes that were painful.

My advice is to take some painkillers which should help to dull the cramps. And take the day off work just in case.

Hope your experience is a good one!

Hi Hope

I wouldn't count on it, from what I remember I had some slight cramps - similar to period pain - I have quite a high pain tolerance.  Might be safer to not put any more pressure on yourself and plan to stay home, then if your feeling ok and can go it will be a bonus!

Hi Hope,

Ditto with Jennsta, when I had mine I had a reaction to the dye and had a fever later that afternoon - not pleasant
