Do these appear later on or if a bub is going to have one it will be there at birth? Sounds like a stupid question but Brennans had this red looking blob for about 2 weeks now, at first i just thought it was a weird bite or rash or something but its still there. It looks similar texture (? if thats the right word) to my cousins strawberry birth mark and i was just wondering if thats what it could be. Might pop into the docs to get it checked soon, just wondering if thats a possibility?

My DD had a birth mark appear recently on her back/shoulder which just popped up, one day it wasn't there and the next it was!

DD was born with a huge strawberry on her leg which the Dr said will just disappear. My MW said to get it checked if it becomes raised which it did, but the Dr was happy with it.
She then all of a sudden got another one on her shoulder which just appeared one day. If they are strawberry birthmarks they should just disappear over time, but always good to have them checked. -------------

| Cheers for that, I didnt realise that they could just pop up at any time. Got to head to docs for something else this week so will get it checked out just in case. |

So, parents shouln't feel guilty. It is natural to feel upset or worried, but birthmarks are not linked to anything the mother did during pregnancy.
Also, strawberry birthmarks tend to fade spontaneously. They are neither painful or harmful, although about one in a hundred will require medical treatment. So, it is still recommended to consult a doctor who will also evaluate and possible recommend some x-rays to see the extent of an infant strawberry birthmark" |

Tom has a strawberry haemangioma too. It appeared a few weeks after he was born because I remember talking to the MW about it. Started as a couple of dots and is now about an 2cm across and .5 high. It has decreased.
I guess you can get them at any time as I got under my boob while pregnant with Tom...but its only tiny. |

Isabella has a strawberry haemangioma on her finger, such a weird place for one as they are usally on the face or body.
I noticed a little smattering of red on her finger when she was about 4 weeks old, and it kept getting bigger and more raised, I got a bit worried so showed the Dr, and he told me it was a strawberry haemangioma ,and that they get bigger and then stop growing and *usually* go away by about 2rs old. Isabella's one is now quite raised and covers the top of her finger and goes down about 1cm Id say, but it doesnt seem to be getting any bigger now, so thats good. ------------- |

Jack got his 2 birthmarks (lgiht one on his arm, dark one on his foot) at about 1-2 weeks old - we initially thought the one on his foot was poo
Ava's had a port wine stain one on her forehead since she was born, but has recently developed a brown one on the back of her leg in a line. It's been there for 2 months now so am assuming it's a birthmark. I always thought they were there from birth, hence the name, but not always the case it seems. |

Yeah if its getting bigger and going like...blood blister-ish then id say its a strawberry haemangioma. They look quite...scary lol, people always say "omg whats wrong with her finger!!" and I have to explain what it is, as they all think she has hurt her self. ------------- |

i grew a nice tanned spot in the middle of my back at 17. its perfectly in the middle of my shoulder blades and from my neck to me bra strap. its about 6cm across 10cm long but slightly irregular in shape.
the doctor said it appeared because 2 weeks earlier i received 2nd degree sunburn to my face, chest and arms (i was wearing a racerback singlet) and that area was covered so it didnt get damaged but the pigment came out more as before then it was barely noticeable. but right in the centre of it is the scar from where the rooster attacked me at 3 so it looks weird |

Amy has got a strawberry birthmark on her neck. It came up when she was a few days old and it was very red, quite raised and about 3cm across.
We had a pead referral to get it checked out when she was about 8weeks and he said that it would start to fade and break up as she grew and then the skin should even out until it was gone. He predicted that is would be gone by the time she started school. Amy is 3y9m and the colour has totally gone. The skin is still a little bumpy but getting less so. The pead was pretty much right on the money so far  -------------

From what I can find on the internet, birthmarks are either something baby is born with, or that appear in the first few weeks.
ToniLT, maybe what you have is actually a Port Wine Stain? I have one on my inner elbow and it looks a bit like a Strawberry mark, bit it's permanent. Mine goes redder when I'm hot, usually it's not so noticeable and then suddenly one day it'll be hot and a friend I will have known for years will be like 'oh my gosh what's wrong with your arm?!'

It seems it depends on the type of birth mark.
Carys has a strawberry hemangioma on her back since birth which grew and has in the last 6mths started to 'break-up' a bit and is starting to become less raised. She grew another tiny one higher on her back which wasn't noticed until 6mths old or so and that one seems to have already disappeared. | babyg - the ones around your boobs could be a fungal infection, sounds gross but basically it's just from heat etc. My sis and I get them all the time and struggle to get rid of them. |
