Wanting to start looking into prams ( I know it is way to early but I feel like I need to do something... ) but I have no idea where to start.
What do you look for? 4 wheels 3 wheels - what is the difference? Some have a bassinet type thingy on them, some look like they fit toddlers but say they can be used for newborns So very confused.
Is there a site that explains all the different types? I also see there are heaps of differnt brands and price ranges. Everybody talks about Ted and something, is that the 'it' thing at the moment? Help!  Can't get myself to go into a shop and ask just yet, but think that some internet research might be ok...------------- Here we go again, another baby on it's way!

It really depends what you want to do with your pram and where you live. If its a mall pram then a small four wheeled pram would be fine, if you walk alot outside a mountain buggy would probably suit better and if you want to use it for a second child later on then a phil and teds would be an option as they have a toddler seat that you can add on later. So .. think about what you want to use your pram for and take it from there. For eg I have two .. a double mountain buggy (I have two children) that I use to go walking with and we have a phil and teds to take to the mall etc as its smaller than a side by side pram.

As we are outdoorsy people we are getting a Phil and Ted pram- it has the option of adding a toddler seat to it. We wanted 3 wheeler as we wanted something we can take through bush walks etc if needed, and I didn't like mountain buggy as they seemed bigger and bulkier and heavier (from playing in the shops)
If your in town and not really going "4wd" with it lol, a 4wheeler probably be fine. NZ is big for 3 wheelers, I know in Europe and all that its pretty much impossible of un-heard of for a 3wheeler! SIL came over and they struggled around with their 4wheeler-but of course they never even really take theirs outside, they are on footpaths, in shops etc with it. They even struggled with the 4wheeler at the tractor crank up day and it wasn't rough ground there!

I don't think we will be going bush with a pram. So am i getting this righ, the 3 wheelers are easier to handle and move around? ------------- Here we go again, another baby on it's way!

3 wheelers are easier to push over grass  I searched for a pushchair for aaaages, I thought so much into it that I was dreaming about the damn things. I highly recommend the Mountain Buggy Urban, easy to get around and fold down etc.. I used a capsule with snap n go wheels for the first few months until Ty outgrew the capsule, which was absolutely fantastic  ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Have a look at the Strollers and Pram website and forum, there are heaps of reviews of all the different prams on it. I'd have a think about what features you want then ask on the forums, they will be able to recommend something to suit you.

We went for a Quinny Buzz. It comes with a bassinet top (which DS is currently sleeping in), a clip in capsule/carseat and a larger attachment for when he is a toddler.
we went for the 4 wheel option, as we were told it was more stable than the 3 wheeler. Think about what you want in a buggy and then go and have a look at whats out there. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Whatever you get, it's really important you can get it in and out of your car ok. I haven't even tried to fit mine in by myself yet cos it's such a squeeze -------------

Hiya
We have a 3 wheeler Valco buggy and it has a toddler seat that clips onto the front. Its a great buggy with 1 child, but once you clip the toddler seat on its very unbalanced as the heavier toddler is on the front and its very easy to tip over. I ended up buying a double mountainbuggy as i found the 3 wheel with toddler seat too unstable. Something to think about. |

A few things I looked for were: Three wheeler with pneumatic (pump up) tyres for a smooth ride. Width of the wheel base as some are wider that others and that can cause problems when loading into the car or even in some shops I didn't want a food tray at the front just a bar How upright the seat goes for when he gets bigger and wants to see everything - some don't go fully upright I also wanted one that had a matching capsule so I didn't have to wake bubs to transfer to the pram when we were in town I should have also looked for the ability to add a toddler seat as we are expecting again! I went to the stores and tried them and had a friend bring her baby so I could get a feel for the handling Good luck! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

C&J i of course havent tried the milano set yet but a friend has it. she said it is heavy and bulky when putting it in the back of the car. she said she wishes she had put more thought into buying it

Its the lifting in and out of both of our cars I'll need to practice, as Dh doesn't want me to scratch the commodore and the mitzi boot is small.
Will keep looking. 8 months of research will come in handy. I think we're going to hire our capsule $85 for 6 months from the baby factory, and then buy a normal car seat once they've grown out of the capsule. ------------- http://lilypie.com" rel="nofollow"> [/url] Angel June 2012 |

| I saw a friend's 8 month old milano - well used over the 8 months, had been new for them - I was surprised at how worn out it looked already already. I'm not sure what model it was. |

| Yup I tried the berini marine, it was my first pram and it was fantastic. At farmers they had one of their good sales and I got it for $200 and it steered better than my phil n teds that I got when I was expecting Jared and it was easy as to fold down. Highly recommend them. |

If the main thing you want to be doing is using your pram in town then definitely opt for a smaller one as opposed to the big three wheeled Mountain Buggy's and Phil & Teds. I HATED taking our Mountain Buggy to town (had to take lifts between floors which were always clogged up with people, wouldn't fit in through checkouts, I'd end up carrying him sometimes anyway and would have to push the pram as well, harder to go up and down stairs, pain in the butt crossing busy roads, clogs up small shops. Etc etc etc). And I haven't used it since I figured out it is SO much easier to use a good baby carrier (we have a Moby Wrap and an Ergo).
They are great however, for walking or running with. Running is the one thing you can't really do with a baby carrier. We have a Mountain Buggy Urban Elite which is very manoeuvrable and we like it a lot. Wouldn't get anything else. All others felt too flimsy and breakable for us and we needed a sturdy workhorse. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Ha ha I don't run so no problems there, and the roughest terrain I'm likely to encounter is the local park.
Interesting what you say about the baby carrier's is that what you use, when going to the shops etc? I never had any probs with getting my bertini anywhere, did well in the shops and everywhere we went. And when farmers have their fantastic sales you really can't beat a $200 pram when its that good. I wish that my phil n teds was more like my bertini but my bertini didn't have the option of a toddler seat.
The bertini also has a capsule you can buy seperately which clips into it. |

We use our baby carriers far more than our buggy (we use our buggy less than 10% of the time). Just so much easier to do stuff with. The buggy is banished from town  Honestly, I could sit here and gush all day about how cool baby carriers are but you would probably get sick of it, and also that would be thread jacking There are quite a few threads about baby carriers on here at the mo - a quick search would do it. Lots of people who are more "in the know" and fanatical about the best slings, wraps and carriers than me
Ok back to prams. We got our Mountain Buggy Urban Elite off TradeMe. It was only a year or two old but hardly used, looked like new and came with heaps of accessories - it was half the price of a new one. Don't know if we would have bought a brand new one.
