I gave birth just over 2 weeks ago now and i ended up getting an epidural about 10-15 mins before my baby was born.
I have had a sore back ever since, i'm not sure if it is related to the epidural or not. It is sore in one spot about the size of a tennis ball about half way up my back on the left side about 5cm away from my spine. It hurts so much that i cant even bend over enough to change the baby and hurts to feed him unless i have pillows behind my back. I am going to have physio tomorrow so hopefully that helps. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Did you contact the hospital where you go the epi to tell them about the pain, if so what did they do? I had a lumbar puncture (almost the same as an epidural) in Nov 09. I felt like I had a deep local bruise in the area for at least a month afterwards, esp when I reached down. I asked my physio and she said the needle goes through areas of muscle etc that don't have such a great blood supply and hence they are slower to heal. I had an epidural in Jan 09 for the birth of my daughter. I don't remember any bruising after that at all. However I did have the discomfort of a CS which probably masked pain elsewhere. Please get your pain checked out. The spine is a delicate area and you need to be sure there are no ongoing problems. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Im reluctant to post this because it may cause you unnecessary worry and its quite rare ,the drs had'nt heard of it happening to anyone else , but if it scares you enough into getting it thoroughly checked out , its worth it .
My friend had a little girl , she had an epi halfway through and gave birth vaginally , 2 weeks later she was in chronic back pain, she was in agony , so much so that she couldn't bath her daughter, could barely hold her and put her onto formula, she walked around with a hot water bottle on her back and did not look good , at all , the pain was located where she had the epidural . Anyway ,she and her mum went back and forth to the dr's and A&E and finally she was given an appointment at the hospital. But by then it was too late and while moving up to the observation ward she collapsed and couldn't be revived, the autopsy showed it was a bloodclot that had burst , most probably as a result from the epidural . As I said I don't mean to scare you , but please go get yourself checked out , insist on a thorough check ,if your body doesn't feel right ,and you don't , insist on them checking and checking until they solve the problem -------------

Have just got back from the physio and the pain is above the epidural site so is unlikely to be linked to it. She said i have a pinched nerve and very tight muscles on that side. I have been given exercises to do before and after i hold the baby or change him to try and reduce the stress on my back, have also been told to get DP to massage it daily and put hot packs on it. glad you've got some answers, hopefully the exercises will work quickly and you can feel back to normal (as normal as you can with a 2 week old anyway ) -------------
