Im just wondering if anyone else out there has this in there family or knows about this?? We have it in my family and I have'nt been tested to find out if im a carrier or not and there is the possibility that my boy could be born with it.. if so its no big deal as its easily dealt with but Im planning to give birth at the Hamilton River Ridge Birthing Center and my MW seems to think thats all fine, she's never handled a case like me though. Im just thinking if maybe the Hospital would be better... anyone know what Im talking about??

I worked with a lady in Christchurch had at least one kiddie with haemophilia. She left our 'company' to work full time with the Haemophilia Foundation of NZ (HFNZ). Belinda is an incredibly cool, approachable sort, so I am guessing that the rest of the organisation would be the same. You should get in touch (http://www.haemophilia.org.nz/index.html) http://www.haemophilia.org.nz/index.html - HFNZ with them.
I have very limited personal knowledge about the disorder, however I would have thought that if your boy was positive, that there would be enough time to transfer him to hospital comfortably after the birth for treatment if needed. In any case, have a talk to the northern rep at HFNZ - they'll have much better advice.
Best of luck and warm thoughts!

my hubbys cousin has it and when Addison was born they suspected she might have it but was given the all clear. i think if they were really worried they would insist you give bith in the hospital. when they thought addy had it there was no big worry, they just did blood tests but then we were in a hospital anyway.
