Can anyone recommend a "Good' formula, My baby is 8 weeks but is crying out of hunger at night after his last feed and I am sucked dry, I want to give him his last feed of formula and have heard the soya based one is good, is this true?

I have not tried the soya based ones but most people usually go for either karicare or heinz nurture, from what ih ave heard, both are equally as good as one another although it has been said that the nurture one is a little kinder on little ones tummies. We used the nurture for both of our girls and have never had any complaints. Have you tried talking to your plunket nurse about it - it could be a growth spurt and might settle after a few nights.

me to, I use nurture starter which is a blue tin with a giraffe on it I think. Its a different base from the likes of the S soemthing one so is easier on her tummy. Buy some sachets to try first maybe rther than wasting a tin.

Has anyone had problemS with constipation on the nuture starter, I heard that was one of its side effects? Also does anyone know where I can buy, organic or normal formula online and other products like baby rice, in NZ.

constipation can be a side effect of most formulas - babies tummies can take a bit to get used to it especially if they are used to breastmilk because it is so easy to digest.. but most of the time they are fine. just try to ensure that it is made up as per instructions and also - if you are still b/feeding most of the time this should help to balance things out.

your mild supply will decrease by the end of the day so lots of babies will feed longer at night. - re the formula tho maybe buying the sachets instead of a tin to start would be a good idea cause you never know how each baby will react to it...

i used s26 gold with both of my girls with no problems. i only chose it because its the formula the hospital used as a top uf with my first daughter so stuck with it.

thats the one I was trying ot think of, s26. When Kobe was in nicu they didnt use that one because it can be harder on thier tummies. This time round the hospital started Addy on that one but she kept throwing up so I swapped her to nurture cos I knew tht one and she was fine.

I started with nuture the swapt to karicare did not like that it was for us the worst of the lot so we went to s26 gold, but that was too much on his tummy so we started using plan s26. Then due to constipation we had tried everything and went ot see a peditrition(sp?) We started on infasoy(soya based) it was great, but very expensive once Alan started on full solids it sorted itself out so we stoped the soya.. We now usr toddler nuture or just cow's milk.

S26 is the one that the hospital's use to formula feed infants. Thats how we started using it with Andrew. I found Karicare was not good on Andrew's tummy, he was quite often sick with it. but every baby is different. Buy the single serves and then see how your baby is with each different one.

We've used Karicare Gold from day one for both our kids and have never had any problems.

I'm not sure if there is a 'best' formula to buy. They are all good, it just comes down to what you think is best.

I used Nurture with all of my kids and had no problems at all. Ryan and Katelyn are now and cows milk which i love because i was going through 2 1/2 tins of formula a week and it was getting abit expensive.

A quick question though, Ryan and Katelyn seem to be constipated, i'm not sure why. Can you get it from cows milk? I try and make them drink water but they are not to fussed on it and the only way i can get them to drink it is out of a pump bottle. Any ideas?

When I was trying to get Alan to have water I would leave his feeding cup fill and where he could get to it sure it ment there was a mess sometime's, but he did get the idea now he jsut walk's around with it. I have never given Alan juice tho I think I got him to try it once and he did like it so I have never offered in scince so he only gets Milk in a bottle and water in his cup's every now and then when it is cold I will give him a warm milo that is it tho. If I was you I would jsut keep offering it to them. They will drink it if they get thirsty enough.

Kelly... I say just go with the pump bottles! Get the little ones and let them drink away! They'll figure out the cup thing as you go along.

Harry is Bob the Builder mad so we got one of those small Fruity drinks and he now uses that for his water. Also good when you are going out as I always full it up with water so if he's thirsty I have something for him

I would think the milk could cause constipation until they get used to it. Have you tried the good old brown sugar remedy for it

that works a treat. we try it with Taine if he gets a tummy upset from new food.
When jake was one, he "could" drink from a bottle, with a lot of mess, but somehow, without practice, just worked it out and is now an expert, I would let the twins drink from the pump bottles to tell the truth. Jake does it still all the time.

Have tried to just give them their cups put they just chew them, i still give them to them every now and then, but they seem to like the pump bottle's better so might continue with them will see how they get on. Forgot all about the brown sugar remedy might give that ago.
They are still doing number 2's but its hard little poo's about 5 or 6 times a day the amount of nappies i go through a day is mad, so as crazy as it sounds i can't wait until they get back to there 1 poo in the mornings and maybe 1 in the afternoon, sorry if to much information.
