Hi there,

I always used a MoonCup (menstrual cup) before I was preggo and I'm just wondering if anyone's used one after birth and how long it took before they were able to use it IYKWIM ?

I guessing things will take a while to tighten up again? I was hoping to use it post-birth, but I'll probably wear a pad as well, just to be safe.

Just wondered if anyone has any experience using a cup post pregnancy?

I would imagine you wouldn't be able to use it immediately after birth due to the infection risk, same reason you can't use tampons for lochia but shouldn't be an issue once your period returns, which can be a while if you plan to breastfeed.

I have a mooncup but I bought it after I had baby and got the larger size as recommended. I didn't get my period for 8 months after I gave birth anyway (due to bf-ing) and by then everything was back to normal.

I'd guess though, as soon as you can wear a tampon (ask your MW) you can try your mooncup. Just make sure it's been sterilised.

Edit: Oh, do you mean post-post birth? Like to contain your lochia? Nah, wouldn't go there, not supposed to put anything up there for a good six weeks I think it is. And I dare say it would fall out anyway!!

LOL yes this is what I was meaning. I wasn't do sure how long it takes for things to tighten up back to normal.

Gosh I had no idea that BFing could delay your period starting. Yet another bonus!

Oh gosh my legs just went all funny at the thought of putting anything up there so soon

Definitley pads only for lochia, an infection is the last thing you want with a new baby. Plus the bleeding isn't all that heavy after the first couple of days so it's not much of an issue anyway.

I'm wondering how long it all takes to go back to normal again too... And how long tears take to heal

Man, just as I'd forgotten about lochia, stitches and bruising...

Oh, and the haemorrhoids.
And the after cramps.

eek!

Back on topic though, I'd say no to the moon cup, too. Just until your body is back to normal.
Tampons aren't advised, so I'd say stick to pads

If tampons are a no no first the first 6 weeks then I think the mooncup would be too

BF can delay AF but not always! everyone is different. I was one who didnt get it back till I stopped BF but I know a couple of people who got it back within the first couple of months after birth and they were bf too
