Before I was a mummy I used to do a lot of babysitting.  As I am a qualified Early Childhood Teacher I used to charge $15/hr a night and $18 during the day.  Other girls at work who are still training charge around $12-$15.  One of the families I used to do a lot of work for now use a high school girl if theyre not going to be to late or going to far, they pay her $10.

As a side note the families I work for live in and around central Auckland

We have paid a girl from Jakes daycare a couple of times and she charges $12.50, which I thought was pretty good (we were expecting $15-18). Dh's neices charge $10/hr I think. We usually just use my mum though = free!

I pay my nanny $20 an hour if we need a babysitter in the evening, which is the same amount I pay her per hour during the day.

Man the cost of sitters has gone up!!!!! I can barely afford to go out for dinner let alone to add a babysitter cost to it...........

I paid a daycare sitter for my 30th, i offered her $100 for the whole night so i could go and stay in the city for the night......

But if i am getting a teenager I will just offer a round figure.......ie will you baby sit for about 3hours tonight for $20??
Its a pretty easy gig if the kids are already in bed or ready for bed

I have a friend that will babysit when ever i want for a peice of caramel slice i make...........too easy!!! but i dont ask often cos i dont like taking advantage of peoples generosity and we dont have any family close by........otherwise i wouldnt have an issue asking family all the time for free

I'm pretty lucky, usually I have a friend or relative or neighbor that doesn't mind babysitting for free. If I can't get one of those, I have another friend who babysits for us relatively frequently, every thurs for Ollie and other times as well... she mostly does it as a favour for us but I give her $20 for the whole day.

I think it's a negotiation with the babysitter.

When I babysit for other people's kids I never ask for money or assume they will pay me, I just see it as a nice thing to do if I can, because I really appreciate it when others can do it for me as well.

My friend has babysat for us twice and pay her $10 an hour + money for pizza we didn't want to "use her" and expect her to do it for nothing. Just like mini wage has gone up so has babysitting when take into account the cost of running your vehicle and your time there.

I only pay my 14yo $10 for the whole evening, although its usually an hour or so, or he's in bed so she's doing nothing more than a normal week night anyway.

I used to baby sit for a few different families and charged $14 an hour.

When we go out though the kids go to the grandparents ;-) We are very lucky or else we would probably never go out!

Yeah, if the kid is fed and ready for bed its easy money for them, and cheap for you. Win-win!

I don't pay  mum is free hehe and bros ex looks after her Thurs for a couple of hours and she is free too, but then I do it for her so its all good, although when I do it for her I normally have someone else here with me ie mum so I look after DD and mum looks after nephew haha. We just do for eachother. I have friends that will do it for free too. Don't go out enough to warrant a baby sitter though lol
