Hi,
I just wonder how true this is - my gradma is insisting that because I'm not suffering from morning sickness, the baby is a boy. Yet mum says it makes no difference - a collegue of hers was really sick and ended up having twin boys.
So what do you ladies think? Can one tell by the "severity" of morning sickness if baby is boy or girl? I'm just bursting to find out - but we won't be able to for quite a few weeks yet....

Hi
I wondered about this when i was pregnant with my son but after much investigation i discovered that it didnt seem plausable because i spoke to so many people like for example my SIL had a girl first and she was extremely sick!!! then she had a boy and she only had mild MS and now she is having another girl and she wasnt sick at all, a friend of mine had 3 boys and she had mild MS with the first, no sickness with the 2nd and severe MS with the 3rd , my mum had 2 girls and she never had MS st all. That was just a few but as you can see there wasnt a pattern so i didnt really beleive it.

Hope this helps

A lot of people predicted that I was having a boy too as I hardly had any morning sickness and it turns out they are right as I am having a boy but I am not sure if this is true for all situations. My sister had morning sickness with both her pregnancies and she had two girls. Another friend hardly had any morning sickness and she had twin boys. Will be interesting to see what you end up with ah?

I was chronically ill with Jacob, amd am even sicker this time, and I am convinced this baby is a girl... Personally, I think it is more genetics, if your mum was sick, you can expect to be. This is one old wives tale I Phooey at.

I have a friend with two boys, she had morning sickness for the first and none for the second! My mum had 4 girls and 6 boys and no morning sickness for any of them. So I'd agree that it's an old wives' fable.

I sympathise with you though, it seems like so long to find out! I'm hoping to find out next Friday... can't wait!

Two boys for me, 1st boy I got hyperemesis, so terrible preggy sickness particularly in the 1st & third trimester but I was sick all the way through. 2nd boy I had bad preggy sickness until around the 20 week mark & then it eased off to just mild sickness. I was told that its just a hormonal & mineral thing, the more the pregnany upsets your hormone balance the worse the preggy sickness. Seemed that way for me anyway as it wasn't as bad for my 2nd boy & I was breastfeeding so the hormone change wasn't so huge.

Both of my pregnancies have been really similar in terms of m/s... and I think this one is a girl? But no guarantees on that one, guess I'll have to wait and see?

I had horrible all day sickness instead of morning sickness and I am having a girl (or so they tell me?!?!)...
but my mother was insistant that I was having a boy cos I craved savoury foods and didnt want sugary stuff - I think all those old wives tales are the same -only right in 50% of the cases cos you have a 50/50 chance of guessing the sex anyway?!?!

I had no morning sickness and I have a beautiful little girl. I think it depends on the person who is pregnant and not which gender she is having.....thats just what I think!

I had no MS with Andrew, infact I had a great pregnancy with no problems until 36 weeks. This one I have had all day sickness, which is now starting to settle down to just the morning and evening. My MW thinks this one is a girl or i'm carrying 2 of them.

I've had hyperemesis both times, hospitalised with Maya and avoided hospital by the skin of my teeth this time round.

And I've got all girls..

Mum never had m/s at all with any of the 4 of us so I guess I'm just special

Thanks everyone! Looks like I'll have to wait and see. Personally I think it will be more hormones/general health related than the baby's sex but was curious to find out what others have found. I have always had quite strong tummy eg I've never suffered from upset tummy when travelling overseas and eating 'strange' foods so I guess that explains (in part at least) why I'm doing OK now.
Oh well, only 10-12 weeks to go until we know...

I had really bad morning sickness for my whole pregnancy and I had a boy. My cousin is having really bad morning sickness as well and she's having a girl. I reckon it's genetic.

I think it's genetic, and influenced by your general health (in some cases), and the level of stress you're under, and sometimes, it's just totally random.  Old wives tales about guessing the gender based on morning sickness or how you're carrying baby drive me NUTS!!     Our sonographer said she was 99.8% sure ours is a little girl (yeah, I know that's not a real statistic and she just plucked it from thin air, but still, she said she doesn't declare the child's gender unless she's very sure of it, and even I thought she definantly looked like a girl in the scan), and since then, people have felt it necessary to say they think it's a boy, because of how I'm carrying (what - in my belly as opposed to my shoulders or knees?!?!), or because of how long the morning sickness lasted (I had the standard issue MS - from 6wks pregnant to 12wks).

It's just fun trying to guess a baby's gender, but once you've found out (or as good as), it's a bit mean to go about declaring to the mum that in your uninformed opinion, it's all wrong and she'll end up with a boy in pink clothes!  (sorry - that all turned into a bit of a rant, didn't it!  My bad).

I had probably a week of mild morning sickness and I am having a boy. I also did suffer alot of headaches and they say that headaches mean boy (wives tale) I also tried the ring on a piece of hair Held over belly and it swung back and forward, meaning boy. a few friends tried the ring trick also and were all correct. lol.

Hey kellverona, I'd love to try the "ring on a piece of hair held over belly" trick - how does it work? Also can I use any ring? My engagement ring is platinum & diamond and my wedding one is plain platinum band. Also do I use my own hair? I've never heard of this before but I'd love to try it!

Lets see...

Kiya (girl): no preggy sickness whatsoever... maybe if there had been I would have suspected I was actually pregnant before I found out at 20ish weeks!

Josiah (boy): some preggy sickness between 5 and 15 weeks

Xavier (boy): some preggy sickness between 5 and 15 weeks (worse than with Josiah)
