OK I know it is a little early for me, but I really want this baby out and so I thought it would be good to start a topic on this to get all you wonderful ladies input on how to get labour started. What worked what didn't that kind of thing.
Look forward to reading some of the idea's.

For a first time mum, how early do you think is too early to try things?

I tried EVERYTHING! Lots of sex, hot curries, raspberry leaf tea, fresh pineapple (a doctor friend suggested that one!).... and nothing worked for me. Fun trying them all out though

I have heard that castor oil is goo too. I think you drink it? Can't remember. I wonder if there is a website that would have hints?

castor oil works for some gives diaroea (sp) to others, not really recommended -bit risky....i say stick with sex ...at least u wont get pregnant-and imagine if u DID! u could sell ur story to the tabloids and make a nice profit
i tried running up and down steps, eating hot curries, drinking rasberry leaf tea, sitting on the washing machine on its highest speed (well i didnt have a partner all right?! lol)
nothing worked-she came when it suited her.
However my friend was due and she went to a party and some guy said "i bet if u jump off the bottom step ull go in to labour in the morning" she jumped and she did...hmmm

I drank castor oil - shudder. It was foul, and di nothing. If you insist on drinking it, mix it with really strong orange juice so you can't taste it as much. I have a bottle here if anyone wants it - seriously it's disgusting. (I'm sure you will all be PMing now with that splendid recommendation)

last time i "did it" it had been a while (again ) from about 1 hour afterwards i started having regular braxtons which lasted most of the night. i know that female orgasm is supposed to bring on some braxtons i didnt actually "o" myself only hubby! i didnt want to (man my cheeks must be burning now!)
havent done it since (ok it was the a few weeks ago) but i have herad it does tend to take more than one sesion!!!! but i guess it does all come down to how ready your body is. i might try again soon.... but im in no HUGE hurry, actually im getting more freaked again now its getting closer! argh!

Acqupuncture works quite well, obviously different for everyone but it would hurt to try. Your midwife should be able to recommend someone.
GOOD LUCK!!

Haha Stevie im suprised you havent mentioned what my MW told me! I was told that oral sex was good because the sperm had something in it (the same stuff as EPO tablets have) forgotten the name now, and that it was better oral than you know...well how gross!! Im not that keen just yet!!

It has prostaglandins in it, EPO has an ingredient called GLA (forget what that stands for) that helps the body produce prostaglandins - and the prostaglandins are what's meant to help start labour, same as the gel they use at the hospitals for inductions etc. I personally don't understand though why it would be better orally, I would say one way is just as effective as the other - and again referring to inductions, they put the gel directly on your cervix rather than make you swallow it !

Yeah i have no idea either, but id prefer to take the tablets orally so will stick to her advice. she told me to take 2 in the morning and 2 at night. Its meant to help my skin to cos iv been getting hormone spots since early in pregnancy.

2 EPO capsules twice a day? No offense, but that seems like quite a lot. I was told that because most capsules come in the 1000mg size, to take just two daily.

I didn't think of telling it here- haha- was sorta hoping id forget about it so carey wouldnt read my mind and hope hed get it hahaha.

i never knew that ...swallowing.... would do the same - i always understood it to mean that a quick shag (preferably doggy ) would get the active ingredients needed as close to your cervix as poss to get the desired result. so the news of the other way is surprising... noone let my hubby know! lets keep it here, dont ever tell, anyone! imagine if our guys all thought that would work......then we would never be able to complain about this baby is never coming out etc etc.

I found this:
...A fully ripe papaya is not considered dangerous, however a papaya that is the least bit unripe contains a latex substance that is believed to trigger uterine contractions and may lead to early labor or miscarriage....
...If your Dr. has recommended natural methods for induction after 38 weeks of pregnancy, eating a slightly unripened papaya may be just the ticket...
Hope this works for you guys - I'll def be trying it when I reach that stage!

My midwife told me to have sex and then lie for half an hour with a pillow under my butt to tilt my pelvis so the sperm would sit against my cervix
