I think you can buy a thing from the chemist that is like what they use at hospital when the baby is first born to take out the muccus from their mouth and nose. Not good at explaining. I do know that in KMart you can get them. Its all in one and its got a long tube attached to a pump type thing and you push the pump bit (with the end of the tube in baby's nose) and it should expel what ever is stuck. Sorry if you don't get what I mean. When your MW comes next ask her if she has one to use.

hehehehe It's scary how obsessive you can get about it. I'd use tweezers if it wasn't easily available. Damn small noses and adult sized fingers!!

My doctor told me to make up saline drops using cooled boiled water(1cup) and 1/4 teaspoon of salt and add 1 or 2 drops to each nostril. He said it is normal for them to snort and cry and when they are doing that you kind of milk their nose. This worked for us when our little man had the flu recently

When i used saline drops, they just ran down into mikeys throat and he drank them!! we stopped doing that, maybe it only works for some babies.
i know it sounds gross and i've never had the guts to try but i've heard that u can actually suck the snot out of the baby's nose (blech)
Also, at night, it helped mikey sleep if we put some thick books under the legs of his cot at the head end. it just raised his head a bit which helped him to breath. but i was told definitely no pillows!!!
good luck, hope her nose clears up soon, poor wee thing.

I was told you can also try a bobby pin hair clip - you know those thin hair clips.

i just put a drop of cooled boiled water in each nostril to loosen the blockage....always did the trick.
and at night id rub vapour rub on a flannel or towel and put it under her sheet ...not on her cos when there little theyre skin is too sensitive.
you can also buy vapourisers but if u dont have one a couple of teaspoons of vapour rub in a cup of boiling water put near but not tooo near babies cot can help them at night

You can buy saline drops from the pharmacy, we only used them once cause Quinn cried til he blacked out.
And the snot-sucking thing? We have one but never really it, I found it useless if babies nose was actually blocked rather than just snotty cause all it seemed to do was suction his nostril shut.
I was a snot picker too...

By snot-sucking I meant the plastic thing you buy, not actually sucking the snot out, that kinda repulses me!
Another fantastic thing for blocked baby noses is Karvol capsules fromthe supermarket, smells like vicks and i used to put a drop on a hanky near his cot. Probably can't use these for wee babes tho.

Vicks has a baby balsam which is really nice - might only be for bubs over 3months old thouhg. Mum was telling me about new vaporisers she saw advertised in a woman's magazine - kinda like those plug in air fresheners that you get the refills for - same thing but a vaporiser. not sure what they are like. She's going to send one over (I'm sure Gisborne has them if Palmy does but she seesm to think I am in the middle of nowhere and can't buy anything - and as it's free for me if she saends it, I hestitate about telling her the truith)

I am a snot picker too...and proud of it.
But recently Zaara has a blocked nose and there is nothing I can pick on...so off to the docs and they gave me saline....one to two drops and it worked like a charm.
However Ella is still so tiny... so not sure....may be ask your midwife for advice.
Another question, when do you introduce a pillow to a baby?
And cutie pie Ella...I hope you feel better soon!!

We were using a damp q-tip (cotton bud thing), but that only worked for the ones that were really close to the edge of her nostril. I did discover last night that the bobby pin / hair clip thing works quite well though, I just used a small one ! Got everything out, didn't realise that one little baby could have so many boogers LOL

A good idea is turnin on the shower HOT and filling the room with steam and taking bubby in there for a while to get the snot running if nose is blocked... we also used/use KARVOL, just drops on his bed around the general head area (not too close when this young) but the fumes help keep nose clear. Alo might try dabbing some onto your clothes so when bubs is in your arms nose stays clear?? Hope this helps

We use the saline drops, they work really well for Cameron. If his nose is blocked I usually do it before a feed. He has tried to drink it though, and gets frustrated when I dont put them in his mouth.
$5 from the chemist.

hehehehe Hannah picks her nose now and then chases me round the house with it on her finger going "Eeeeeeeeeeew". It is so gross. But then she eats it after that which is so much worse.
Mind you, had a gross snot encounter the other day. Happened to look down at my black pants when I'd been at uni for a couple of hours and saw a giant big snot trail down one side on my pants!!!! Yuck! Had to pretend we have a snail infestation the rest of the day
