I have both a bassinet and a Nature Sway hammock (only just ordered the cot).  Kiara  sleeps in the hammock by day and the bassinet by night to differentiate night and day for her.  I used the hammock from the day we braught her home and love it although I know of babies that hated them.

Car capsule;  We hired ours from Plunket for 6 months (i think it cost $50?).  Not having tried other ones I can't compare, but having a snap in base that stays in the car is great so there's no mucking around with seatbelts getting it in/out.  Also snap on wheels would be handy so you could use the capsule as a pram for short periods.  From a safety perspective be careful buying off Trademe.  I'm sure most of them are okay but you don't know their history and the capsule really is all about safety.

For our DS we had a cot, hammock and bassinet, he was in the bassinet and hammock until 2 months and then the cot and hammock from then on, we stopped usuing the hammock all together when he was about 5 or 6 months old.
The hammock was lovely though! I used it when he wouldnt settle or for some of his day sleeps, but for night time and long sleeps he went into the bassinett or cot.

I got my capsule new off TradeMe and it was fantastic, and safety approved, DD has just gone into her safe n sound carseat now at 7 months, DS went into his at 7 weeks as the capsule we had was crap, I got it off a friend and didnt realise it had expired

Jackson we straight into a cot but we had a hammock for downstairs and he slept in that for some day sleeps. He loved the hammock and it was nice having him near me where I could see and hear him

Re capsules, I am a safety freak so would only buy one with a base and tether strap that goes into an anchor point.

You could try hiring a hammock to try your bub out before spending money on something they might not take to
