Im throwing a baby shower for my close friend who is 34 weeks preggers and has gestational diabetes. She is not allowed to eat sugar or carbohydrates at all. Any suggestions on afternoon tea snacks and foods that she could eat at her baby shower?

Hmm what about Fruit kebabs - Kiwifruit, watermelon, orange, pineapple etc.
Cheese and crackers platter but also hard cheese so she can eat it too.
Umm Im not sure about carbs but Spring rolls and Samosas.

I have GD and never had a problem with food at my baby shower. Best thing is to probably ask her what food she would like to have there. Unless she doesnt know and its a surprise.
With my GD i HAVE to eat carbs, not sure why she cant, maybe there are different types? but i didnt think there was....

Seams weird she can’t have ANY carbs? would be interested to know why not? as there is only 1 type of Gestational Diabetes and we all get a eating plan of how many carbs to eat at each meal. Even with type 1 or type 2 diabetes you have to eat carbs.
Just look for diabetic recipes on google there are some really nice recipes that no one will know they are for diabetics.

Good on you for researching, I had to sit back at my baby shower and watch everyone else eat because nothing was OK for Gestational diabetes. I think asking her would be the best bet - unless it is a surprise shower of course!

A friend of mine had GD when we held another friend's baby shower. We went to a high tea buffet so she could choose what she ate for herself but I remember her saying she wasn't allowed to eat fruit as it is so high in (natural) sugar. I can't actually remember what she DID eat other than vege sticks and dips and cheese ..... I know she was gutted about not trying the scones and cakes and things but she also didn't go hungry! Sorry, not much help
I agree with whoever said just to ask her what she's allowed to eat/wants to eat.

She isnt allowed to eat any fruit, especially dried fruits as they are so high in natural sugar. As for the carbs, she is on such a strict diet with them anyway, because of weight issues. Am thinking of adding vege sticks with dips, cheese and crackers so far but its a pretty boring selection of foods. It is a surprise shower, and everyone is bringing a plate too. Still looking for last minute suggestions though.
