i started in a new role at the same company last year (cant remember the date of the top of my head but about July) when i got the job it was all a bit messy as the person in the role wasnt skilled enough to do it. the role was paying $5000 more then i was on so they gave me an $2500 increase and her a $2500 decrease plus she was put on a contract until dec (they had to do due to her contract) i was advised i would get a $2500 payrise when she left, but silly me didnt get in writing. the other person doing the same role gets the original amount and she has been with the company less time then me (but in the role about 2 more months then me) new roles in the company at the same level as me have been advertised at the original amount as well

now its April and still no payrise. i have been to the General Manager (who stated i would get the payrise) 3 times and he always says he will look into it. today he said i need to go to my manager and talk to her about it. she said that new people arent actually getting the original amount they get less due to their skills and they will look at my pay in the financal year (july) and after my job appraisal but not promises

sorry for the long post but what would you do? i feel unvalued in my job and its taking a toll on my confident

Hiya H, it sounds like you have done everything you can do seeing you have pursued it and have been told you aren't entitled to it. You really don't have a come back seeing it wasn't in writing unfortunately. At the end of the day $2500 doesn't make much of a difference in terms of how much you get in the hand per pay anyway I wouldn't have thought? Are there other reasons why you are feeling undervalued in your role? Have you tried speaking your manager about that aspect?
