| hi, i am stuggling to find a winter jacket that will fit me thru pregnancy! I am due in Sept. I had a big big bump and a big big baby last time, so need to choose carefully! Im from chch, so it gets very cold down here! anyone come across anything? Its just for casual. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! |

I struggled with this problem too when I was pregnant through winter. I ended up wearing my pre pregnancy winter coat and just not doing it up, but I did buy a couple of warm cardies like this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Clothing/Womenswear/Maternity/Other/auction-282354909.htm - Cardigan that were great!

may sound dumb but what size are you?
i have a size 14 portmans jacket that i've been meaning to put on trademe, but anyway its a 14 but im a large 16 borderline 18 and its roomy on me. (im not pregnant though) have you considered just buying a larger sized jacket? my http://www.trademe.co.nz/Clothing/Womenswear/Jackets/Size-8-under/auction-281585483.htm - coat is similar to this one, however its bright pinky/purple and only has two rows of buttons at the top over the chest, so bumps can sort of poke out if they get a wee bit big. i can try take a picture if you (or anyone else is interested) ill sell for $40. plus postage

I lived in my Kathmandu puffer jacket....just couldnt zip in up. You might find that the further along you are in your pregnancy, the warmer you will feel.
I live south down south too and would often get odd looks when I wore cotton tops out in june/july (was sue sept). |

I've gone to glassons and gotten a few merinos in a size up fro what I'd normally buy, they grow heaps and wash back into shape. Because I've only gotten one size up it means they still fit really well in the shoulders arms etc, but even if I'd gone 2 sizes up they would have.
With a few long sleeve merino tops, and a few pregnancy singlets (the long ones) and a few belly bands (just the stretch of fabric to go across my tummy incase tops get a wee bit short) I should be fine... And for the REALLY cold days, I'll probably wear merino, 2x singlet, belly band, and a scarf... And I live in Southland! 
But then again, I love love LOVE merinos, they are sooo warm and comfy. And I think its just a bonus that I'll very easily be able to wear them after baby! |

| thanks for all your replies! I am a size 12 by the way, Mrs Tiger, so your one won't fit! Maybe I will just get some merinos as suggested and make do with not doing up my jackets! I still want to be able to go for a walk, and merinos and cardies are all fine untill the southerly wind stirkes.....shudder! My last pregnancy was over the summer, and i did buy lots of "normal" clothes a few sizes up, but they do end up being a bit big in the shoulders, and end up showing a bit of boob! (im only 5ft2 also, so most tops end up a bit lower on me!) Anyway, will keep looking! Thanks! |

I'm in Auck and had a July bub but I found it was pulling things across my chest that I wanted the most the bump kinda took care of itself. I saw, didn't actually do it myself as I had a jacket I could pull over my chest anyway I saw a woman one day with a glassons hoody, the polarfleece type ones that has the double zip so can be unzipped from the bottom once done up on. I am a bit of a cheapskate so am just doing this at the moment. Only problem with this is that the Glassons polarfleeces with the two zips are not very stretchy across the bottom, so the bigger the bump gets, the harder it is to zip the bottom up. Need to take in a big breath to get the bottom zipped, then it's all good once I've unzipped it to the top of the bump.  I don't know if that makes too much sense.
Anyway, I've also got a jacket that has two buttons quite high up, so they sit above the bump, and the material just kind of hangs down from there. I've seen lots of these jackets on people in the street, but I'm not sure if they make them any more. Try Save Mart or another place like that? |

I had an October bub last time and am due in July this time. During my last pregnancy I splashed out because Max had a grey swing style duffle coat, it fitted the whole way through my pregnancy. There are heaps of coats around this year so it might be just a case of having a good shop round and see if you can find anything. We live in Canterbury on a farm so totally hearing you on needing warm things. I have been wearing a microfleece of my husbands round already, is stretchy so it fits fine (that is swazi brand, which is a hunting brand of clothing!). ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I have my Volcom snowboarding goose down puffa jacket. So warm and cosy. And it's a large as all my snowboard gear is baggy. So that should see me through I'm hoping. I've also got a good few polyprop/merino thermals that are super warm and really long so I'm just gonna layer a lot.
