Ok so we listed out house and it sold! The night it sold the agent brought the SOLD stickers over but he wasnt sure if we would accept the offer or not so he was a bit cocky, but that characterises him anyway... I said what no champagne... he laughed and said i will bring you one over...
Today i receive a letter from the office of the real estate company with a copy of our docs... the letter is NOT even signed. and i havent heard from our agent since we sold the place.
I was so annoyed and angry... but am i being silly. ?

My understanding is the sold sign doesn't go up until the sale and purchase goes unconditional. Until then its not effectively sold.
Is the sale and purchase signed by both parties and are they're any clauses on it. Ie: subject to finance, LIM etc?
Not sure what bit you are annoyed and angry about? The letter is probably a standard form letter sent out to all sellers, once its sold the Agents job is pretty much done. In the end its daily business for them what do you expect him to do?

The house isn't sold until the money is in the bank (even an unconditional offer can fall over), but the sold sign usually goes up once unconditional. I would be a bit pissy if it was my REA as well, what awesome customer service (that's sarcasm)!! I think that, at the least, the letter could be signed. I know when we bought this house, we got a hamper from the REA, and in February this year (2 years later) we got sent 2 coffee vouchers from her....helps to explain why she's one of the best REA's in this area.
Personally, I would expect the REA to follow up that things are going well until the settlement date, make sure I don't have any questions (even if they just had to refer me to my solicitor etc) and generally make sure the sale is going well. Even if it's just to keep them in my good books so that I might get referrals or future business from them.

When we sold the agent bought something around the day we moved out (so quite awhile after it "sold")
I actually only expected the agent of the property I bought to give me a gift .. after all .. I paid his commission!

I should say...I wouldn't expect to hear from them once settlement has gone through though, except a phone call to make sure it happened alright and wish us luck in the future or something similar.

It is pretty average service, but then as you say you wouldn't bother using them again.

I work in the industry and our office sends out a standard letter (signed) with the docs once everything is finalised. This goes at the same time as the contract is sent to the solictors.
The office then sends a gift and a card from the manager on confirmation, these are couriered. The agent then goes around to put the Sale sign up and often gives a gift then as well.
I would be disappointed with the service!

Certainly not encouraging repeat business is he Bizzy! As you say he could have sold you a new house & got commission on that too.

Ours was slack too. Soon as unconditional, never heard a peep until about 2 days after we moved to new place they gave us a gift basket.
I would have appreciated a bit more service since I paid so much! Wont be using the same company again either.
Peanut - sounds like really good service from where you work

Infact that reminds me, it had gone unconditional and no for sale sign had gone up and the open home sign was still up. I had to pull the open home sign off myself, then they came around and cellotaped a cancelled sign on (about 1hr before hand) which unstuck itself in the wind
grrrr
(sorry just hijacked your thread with my grumpiness at my REA)
so the answer to your question......yes!

Yeah, sounds about right. I've had pretty crap service from real estate agents in the past too. Last year when we bought our house, we had to take down the For Sale signs ourselves and I had to ring them 3 times to come and get them, and the agent kept saying she'd drop by with a gift for us. Almost a year later and still nothing.
This year we sold our other house, and got nothing from the agents...except for the bill. Nice work.

I would be disappointed too. You certainly do expect some contact or thankyou gift or something. It is your home you sold, your most valuable possession. Unfortunately that often gets lost on some agents as "just another sale/owner/house".
And an unsigned letter - terrible. Such a minor thing but it really does give an impression doesn't it

I don't get why you would expect (want) a gift since it really only means that they are taking more in commission...they have to pay for the gift somehow and it sure doesn't come out of their own pocket.

But big congrats on selling the house!

I am amazed by some of the stories on here about RE agents. I guess thats why the office I work for has won lots of costumer service awards. i just thought what they did was the norm.
Interesting when you say the gifts a rubbish. What kinda gifts have you been given?
We vary depending on the clients etc - so have wicked peter rabbit books for people with new babies, foodie baskets, cool glass jugs, stunning human body coffee table books. This is just from the office. The agents then give something more personal for their own clients.
It does come out of commission but the company I work for has standard commission anyway so you may as well get something.

Yeah Bizzy, I agree. It's not really a gift if you expect it!
And with the unsigned letter, what was it? If it was just a general letter from the agency saying congrats on the sale of your house, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
If it's any consolation, DH and I just sold a $1.2M house – $38K of which was commission and we didn't expect nor get given a gift. Selling our house was enough of a gift for us!
Congratulations! It's still hard to sell in this market. Well done!

Your agency sounds fab!! We got a naf plate thing but that's fine I wasn't expecting anything as the buyer. My parents agent got about $28k commission from their house and they got a clock, with all the numbers upside down.....
