What age did other mum's find their babies could self-feed with a spoon?

I don't mean self-feed with finger food. DS has finger food all the time, he's even just figured out how to pick up raisins .
I mean eating with a spoon and "getting it". If I give DS a spoon at the moment it's just a chew toy and food distributor (and not to his mouth).

My girl has just gone 11 months and she has been able to get the spoon to her mouth if i load it up for about a month - some days she wants to self feed other days she would rather sit there like a baby bird and have me do the work LOL

Cody is only just realy starting to do it. Though it is still a bit of hit and miss and sometimes requires my assistance.

Jude has been able to feed himself with a spoon since we started solids (we are doing BLW). But only if I load it up first and then hand it to him (goes STRAIGHT into his mouth, no mucking around! Haha - he really likes his food)

He has only just recently figured out that if he takes the spoon out of his mouth and drops it on the tray or hands it to me then I will load it up and give it back to him. Before that I would have to take it out of his mouth and wrestle it from his hand.

As a lead on question from yours - at what age do babies start trying to load up their spoon themselves or get the hang of "dipping"?

Andrew's been able to feed himself from a spoon since 6mo if it's loaded for him.  He's been practicing loading it himself just as long but only in the last 2 weeks has he really got the hang of loading his own spoon and feeding himself (or feeding me if he doesn't want anymore)

We are doing BLW as well and Ben has been able to spoon feed himself if I load the spoon for at least a couple of months, nowdays he hardly ever misses although sometimes he does end up with it up his nose!! I haven't let him try and load it himself because he always just tips bowls or plates upside down and tries to chew them!

I still don't trust Campbell with a loaded spoon by himself! And this at 14 months!
I think he's physically capable of doing the whole thing - dipping and loading himself, and then putting it in his mouth - but if I let go of the spoon, he typically flings food all over the place and starts chewing and playing with it!
Not sure if I should just let him make the mess so that he'd eventually (maybe!) get the idea or not....

We're another BLW family, and DD has been holding spoons since she was 6 months. However, only since Christmas (so, 10 months) has she been able to dip herself, and it's messy!!! When I could load the spoon for her, it wasn't so bad, but now that she's flinging the spoon (getting the hang of scooping herself) oh boy, is it a mess!!! Still messy at 13.5 months, but she's getting better. We have been using a fork for most meals since she turned 1, much easier than a spoon! she's learning how to stab with the fork as well as scoop, but also knows it's waaay faster with her fingers.

have put a pic in the BLW photo thread.

Henry has been feeding himself successfully with a spoon since xmas. So 16moths. But it can be a bit hit and miss - like if he's tired etc. And some days he prefers us to feed him. His latest thing is pushing his place towards us and handing us the spoon saying 'taa' because he wants help. When he's really hungry he prefers us to feed him.
