We are travelling overseas in 4 months and DS will be 18months old, its only to Fiji so im thinking of getting a capsule that goes up to 13kg to use rather than take our expensive seat which might get damaged in transit. Has anyone done this before? DS has been out of a capsule for ages, didnt stay in one long but i am guessing so long as he is in the weight range and head isnt above the carseat its ok?

I know someone who used a capsule up to 18m as their son was under 13kg. they had no problems and now at 5 have just taken him out of his rear facing car seat into a forward facing booster.

It all does depend what height of the capsule goes up to and how tall your child is? I personally wouldn't buy one just to be used for a few days. My thoughts were you don't need a carseat if you are using public transport but don't quote me on it.

DS fitted his capsule til 14 months no problem. It was one that went up to 13kg so he was easily within the weight limit, and was in the height limit too. We only used it as a spare at that point though.

We still use our capsule - Peg Perego Primo Viaggo - it goes up to 13.5kg. Callum is 16.5 months old and just under 12kg.

We have a forward facing car seat in our own car, which C prefers as he can see out the windows more easily, but during the week when we use taxis all the time he's still in the capsule. I can't believe he still fits, but it works great for us!

Would you borrow one to take away with you? Try it out lots before you go and hopefully your DS won't mind it too much

Our capsule is one that goes up to 13kg too but my DS was out of it by 4 mo because he was too long.  He's only in the 85th percentile for height and the 50th for weight so it's not that he's a giant baby.  I understand that the point where the shoulder strap meets the carseat must be above the childs shoulders otherwise it's unsafe - does that make sense?
