Hi All,
I would really appreciate some help from anyone who uses these.
I'm not allowed to TTC yet under doctors orders but I purchased a Maybe baby microscope so that I'm prepared when I can.. I also thought it would be good as a natural contraception.
I've used it for a couple of days, I know that i'm at least a week away from ovulation.
I tested my sister and my Mum with it yesterday. My sister is on the pill and my mum has had a Hysterectomy so both of theirs looked the same.. and mine only had a few pebbles and dots.. but no where near like the picture shows (much less than 1/4)
Is this a sign that something is wrong?
Thank you

Hiya, from what I have heard about them they can be difficult to use and the results can be quite inconsistent depending on how much saliva you use, how dry it is when you look at it etc. I would recommend using OPKs instead because at least you know they are reliable and they are cheap if you buy them online from somewhere like baby4you.

I tried using one when I was TTC and never got the ferning even though I followed the directions. So I would also suggest sticking with OPKs and CM checking.

I used a maybe baby scope and this is what i learnt.
You need to use the saliva first thing in the morning...make sure though there are no bubbles in the saliva, and it needs to completely dry. (also need to use heaps of saliva).
(you can use saliva throughout the day, just make sure its 2 hours after eating and drinking as this can effect it.).
and you just need to keep trying...some months i got loads of ferning other months i got none

Thanks Little_red and ToniLT, I'll try the sticks if I keep having trouble with the microscope.
Some people swear by them so I will give it a chance first.
Thanks Kazzle, I was only putting on a thin wipe of saliva, so possibly thats the problem.
I was just worried that maybe my hormone levels were low or something as I wasn't getting many more pebbles and dots than my Sister and mother.
I'll try it again in the morning with more saliva.

Ok,
I used it again with more saliva. I got some big ferns, some little ferns and some pebbles.. so it looks like I'm going into my fertile phase.
I'm completely new to this and before my Miscarriage I didn't even know how long my cycle was.. but I think it was about 31 or 32 days. After my miscarriage my cycle is now 36 days. I started AF on the 7th of this month so it's now been 14 days... is it possible to be going into my fetile phase already? I looked up on a ovulation calculator and it said I would start ovulating about the 27th. I figure that because I have a longer cycle that I would ovulate later.. is that correct?
I might have to start a new thread as I've gone off topic. Any help would be much appreciated as I'm in the dark

Definitely possible to be ovulating already. For one, your cycle might be shorter this time OR you might have a longer luteal phase (the part of your cycle after ovulation). The average is 14 days, but can definitely be shorter or longer.

Your cycle can fluctuate so you could ovulate any time really. If you don't want to get too scientific about it just BD every second day, otherwise go by your microscope or OPKs.

Thanks Chelles and little_red! Thats great to know.
I feel a bit silly knowing so little!
Does a long Luteal phase cause any problems?

A short LP can cause probs (ie less than 10 days), not a long LP as far as I know. Generally your LP will remain consistent each cycle, it is the pre-ov phase (can't remember the correct lingo!) that varies.

So having a 36 day cycle is not really a problem?
I have read that 28 days is "good" but I'm not sure if having a longer one is "bad".

Lots of the women on here have long cycles. Take a look in the Charting thread.

Hmmm, yesterday I had small ferns (much smaller than the day before) and today theres chain type pattern... so I wonder if that means I missed ovulation?
