Would entirely depend on the size of your bub. They do overlap quite a bit with the snaps so a smaller bub can go into them ok at a smaller size. My son wasn't out of smalls til around the 7kg mark which was 9 months I think but I did have him in some meds before then.
Do you know what weights you & DH/DP were born? I've found birth weights are some what genetic. My kids were 6lb 8oz & 11oz My DH & I were low 7lb & my Grandma (Mat) had 6lbers as well.

You can split the sizes in the bakers dozen and get some smalls and some mediums (I only got 4 smalls). Kiara only fit the smalls at 3.5kg because she had skinny legs and until they filled out we had many leakages.

I agree with splitting the sizes. My DS is still in smalls, and will be for a wee bit longer. I have bought a few mediums for later on but they dont fit yet. He is 6kg and now that his legs have plumped up fits them nicely.

I put my 4kg baby straigh into mediums and they were fine - still room for them to be tighter even. I put my 7 month old son (quite a big boy, but small waist) into larges at 7 months

It does depend on the size of you bub. My little girl is 1 in a few weeks and still fits the smalls (she is not quite 7kg).
It's a pain, but it's impossible to predict how your bub is going to grow - I would have brought more smalls if I had have known she would be in them this long!
