i can't drink anything.   i can stomach a small selection of foods...mainly plain and/or high fat tasting types....but when it comes to drinking, I can't seem to stomach anything.  Water tastes like metal. Juice tastes like metal. Herbal teas and coffee make me want to vomit, soda is the same. The only thing I can occasionally stomach ok-ish is half a cup of strong boot tea.  I'm getting worried that my fluid intake is low and its making me feel sicker....I know, it's a catch-22. Do you think I'll get enough fluids from toast, vegetarian sausage, yogurt and apple/banana? Sometimes veges are ok and I know they have water in them.

Any tips...please!

When I was preg with the gremlins, all I could stomach was lemonade iceblocks and Ribena. I drank litres and litres of Ribena, made up quite weakly as it's got a lot of sugar in it.

Iceblocks are great coz they infuse fluid slowly so it's more likely to stay down.

i would try some mizone and see if you can keep that down.

or else get hold of your midwife and get checked out to make sure your not dehydrated, they also have pills they can give you to try and stop the nausea.

I did a thread on this a few weeks ago cause I was in the same position so if you have a look back through posts on here you should find it. i dont remember what it was called though.

Ice cubes were great. Just did that all day long with gaps in between them so it was little and often. And have you tried choc milk. I'm living on that now, even though I couldn't stomach it in the beginning.

Also try accupuncture. I've been having it for weeks. The earlier you start it the more likely it is to work. I can drink a lot more now than I could. The nausea isn't gone but its gone enough to function.

I had hyperemesis too but most fluids i could keep down luckily.

I loved the lemon pumped water as that citrus made me feel better, so did drinking straight from a lemon, sniffing them helps too lol GL HUN

Another one to suggest ice blocks.. be it store bought or home made frozen juice.... worked a treat for me. Ice cold water with slices of lemon also was ok to sip.. still iffy on water any other way now...

Callipo iceblocks, watermelon and sparkling water helped me. Well it's not that it helped but it was something I could keep down and kept up my fluid intake.

Hope it gets better soon!

There's some good ideas there thanks ladies

Will try the watermelon and iceblocks first I think. Have got some Lucozade which is ok-ish and stays down. I am hoping like heck this passes in a week or so!

Sorry to hear you are feeling so yuckky. I also found pineapple frujus and lemonade popsicles were my friends. But it was summer then. Lime cordial I also found good (like the Barkers ones).

oh the metal taste...it suuuuucks!!! Some days that was worse than the hyperemesis and would make me cry! So, I feel your pain!!!

I don't have anything much to add to the above suggestions except to reinforce what you said, that it does make it worse if you don't drink. Dehydration really does make you more sick (I'm sure that there is a physiological explanation with regards to ketones and electrolytes), so if you can at least force yourself to sip away at something (rather than thinking that you have to take big gulps) then that's better than not having anything at all.

Oh - actually - another suggestion - have you tried frozen coke? I found that tolerable...

GOOD LUCK!!!

Oh hun, I so feel your pain.

I bought STACKS of iceblock moulds when I was pg with Callum and they are all in use again now! Pineapple Just Juice, apple juice (the real stuff, not the just juice kind) and grapefruit juice are winners here. I can't drink a lot of juice but eating an iceblock really helps.

(I really wish I could just pop out to a dairy for a pineapple fruju though!!!)

lol you guys are great!  I've stocked up on lemonade popsicles and jelly tip trumpets (don't ask just craved them...and I normally NEVER eat ice cream!!)

The mateallic taste is still strongly here but the weirdest thing about this pg and whats so different from being pg with Clodagh is how absolute my cravings ahve been!  I didn't really have many with her- with this one I MUST have something when I want it...and its all about protein (vegetarian protein lol) and savoury type tastes. SO weird. must be a boy.

I had ribena in the little tetra packs. Took me all day to finish one when I was at my worst but having it trough the straw helped as I could have the smalles amounts.

What about things like citrus fruit? I am only just now able to eat the odd grapefruit or mandarine.

Other things that you could try are jelly, custard, fejoas, soup, and anything else that has a high water/fluid content.
