Hi just wondering if anyone knows why it says to not use the for more than 10hours in a 24hour period?
DD still gets wrapped using normal cotton wraps IYGWIM, but we use the Miracle Blanket at night (no more than 10 hours!). However during the day she ALWAYS unwraps herself no matter how tight we make it. So she always wakes her self up. So was just wondering if anyone knew why it's no more than 10 hours...
ETA: This is the http://www.miracleblanket.com/indexb.htm - Miracle Blanket I am referring to.

I'm not an expert by any means but I've got a miracle blanket too and I don't think it's anymore than a general instruction really....
I doubt it's going to kill a baby to be in it 11 or 12 hours IYKWIM!
I think it's more important not to wrap them for longer than 8 or so hours as they do need to stretch their arms and legs just like an adult!
I wouldn't feel that great if I was in a 'straight jacket' for ages at a time!

i agree... it's hard not to wrap a little one for that long.. Liam is always wrapped in his miracle blanket..anything else he gets out of..i worried about that in the beginning too:) but i always unwrap him to feed him and make sure he has heaps of kicking and floor time during the day.. as they get older it's easier not to have them in it too long..

I have Jasper in his overnight - so for 12 hrs i guess and don't unwrap him in that time. Yeap i guess they probably get uncomfortable and need to stretch but he gets lots of that during the day.

Maybe because it is so confined and the 'odours' tend to stay in? We have to wash it after every long overnight sleep because even though there have been no leaks it does not smell very fresh!

Yeah we wash ours regularly.
I always let Lily be 'free' for her feeds as she likes to use her hands lol

OMG I never knew that! We used our miracle blanket for all sleeps from day one through til about 5 months old. That's for 2 x 2 hour day naps & 12 hrs overnight! Even when we got Daniel up for his dreamfeed we still left him wrapped. I feel terrible now, I have never heard of that & no one has ever mentioned that to me at all before.

It's on the instructions sheet it came with... lol
says 'WARNINGS: do not swaddle for more than 10 hours in a 24hr period, do not swaddle for more than 8 hours in a row and do not wrap arm flaps to tightly'

We wrapped Callum for all his day sleeps and he was wrapped all night too. Once he started sleeping through we kept him in his MB till he could get out of it himself (about 6m old). He loved it

So I'm assuming that they don't want you to swaddle ur baby for more than 10hours a day even if using a different type of blanket? Sorry pretty obvious question but just thought I'd confirm with others opinions.
If that's right, you'd think it would be in plunket books or you would have been told by MW or something?

Hmm, Im not sure? Babies sleep for a lot longer than 10 hours per day in total. Hunter can wiggle out of his miracle wrap and I think his sleeping bag is getting too small too. Guess we need to look into other blanket options now.

We didn't use a miracle blanket but our DS was swaddled for every sleep for about 7 mths. No one said it was bad to have him wrapped up so much.
Surely the warning should be elsewhere too?

It's just for the miracle blanket, but then again the miracle blanket claims to have some sort of abdominal pressure to stop fussiness and encourage sleep so that could have something to do with it.
I suppose they don't have it for normal swaddling because often we don't do it tight enough and they always wriggle free?

I honestly don't remember seeing that on the instruction leaflet. Maybe it's a new thing? It's been over a year since I bought mine.
Plenty of other wraps are just as tight and my baby is fine so it seems a bit over the top to me.

How interesting, I dont recall seeing that a few yrs ago when we used ours. DS did 2 x 2hr naps everyday and about 10hrs overnight in his and has had no issues!! I wouldnt wrap him during awake time of course.
Dunno about other Mums but I'm certainly not going to wake a sleeping baby and unwrap her/him cos the 10hr max had been reached

lol kiwi me neither :)
i would assume its just a warning as they have to be very careful and say ridiculous things these days..and also maybe cause the arms are wrapped and for developmental purposes they dont want them wrapped too long..i dont think its a health hazard:) certainly Liam is always wrapped in his..and no feet anymore..even when i use othe rwraps i wrap with arm flaps under like miracle or otherwise he can get out..I'm too scared to unwrap at night and ruin the good slep lol:)

Yep, it's developmental. I saw it and panicked for a night "OMG, he's so going to have weird arm dvelopment" and then chilled out! I would tend to do it looser during the day as well, but that precious nighttime sleep ..... well worth being snuggly-wrapped for that!

I suppose they just have it as a general warning, on the website it doesn't mention it... Just mentions about other so called 'miracle blankets' not being designed properly.
TBH I don't think I do it that tight anyway, esp if she can get her legs out!!

It is just a general warning to protect themselves incase some idiot leaves their baby swaddled 24/7.
