Just did a search and there wasn't anything specific to what I have to ask.

DD is starting to roll all over the place so I'm thinking that I am going to need to baby proof sooner rather than later.

So I have done the majors (power sockets etc) and we will be mainly focusing on teaching her what she can and can't touch but have a few questions.

1. What did you do with pot plants? I'm leaving out the safe ones but want to cover the dirt with something that's not a choak hazard.

2. How did you cover cords? We have a speaker cable running across the entrance to our lounge which I can see DD loving as it is bright red so quite noticable (I hate it but DP says it is needed) I don't think running it up and over will be an option as it is expensive and I don't think we will have the length to do so.

Oh and any other tips/ideas will be welcome

TIA

Put a rug down if you can over the powerchord.

DD is into pot plants, she found the cactus one day and I couldn't figure out where she'd gone and could hear her crying she kept touching it then taking her hand away and touching it again lol, that was the last time she touched the actual cactus as for the dirt, that's a daily occurence.

TV etc if thats low enough for them to touch then put a coffee table infront of it. DD used to try and go under but now she doesn't cos she figured out she gets stuck haha.  Stereo they like to touch if its low as well, so I used to unplug ours at the wall when godson was round.

Obvious things like no table cloths, dont leave mags and newspapers around, and pens/pencils need to be up and out of the way. DD loves to pull all these things down and eat them!

Get down on oyur hands and knees and crawl around ,and you can see what needs to be done.

We ended up putting out TV on the wall as it was standing on a coffee table,DD was clmbing up and trying to swing on it

Put safety catches/locks on cuupboard/drawers.

We keep the toilet/bathroom doors closed.

Make sure you have a look around outside too, check for small things they could try and eat.

We have stereo cables and stuff around as well but she never seemed to worry about them.

i just put locks on the cupboards (except for one cuz he's allowed in it) and took the glass coffee table away. He loves books etc, so my magazines are out, as well as newspapers. We did have the odd black face when he was a wee person exploring from the ink on the paper, but thats easily wiped off. Theres such a thing as OVER babyproofing. Teaching them that theres things they're allowed to touch and not allowed to touch is always good. We have cables everywhere as well, we just taped them together under the doors. And thats only because he would pull on them. Many a time the phone was down the back of the TV where I couldnt reach!

I know someone who uses pantyhose to cover potplants, but I can't quite remember how she does it.
(Sorry, probably not much help)

I think we will mount our TV on the wall aswell. We have so much stuff around that it will be a big job for us to baby proof! First thing will definatley be some kind of shield for the fireplace.

ive heard of people using a play pen to surround the tv and stereo.... could you tape the cable down? with the pot plants, could you make a cardboard cover? the pantyhose sound like a great idea.

The panthose sounds like a great idea, I'm sure I have some old ones somewhere too. We are going to leave the cable and then try attaching it somehow if she is interested in it. Hopefully by the time she discovers it she'll understand no!

I was told babies start to understand 'no' around 8-9mths. I don't think my DS has got it yet though. I'm dreading him getting properly mobile - he's only rolling at the mo and I can keep up with that.
