if you do what type? im thinking of getting one to get to uni and back as petrols costing way too much.

Do you have your motorbike licence? Because that would play a factor in which scooter you could actually ride.
When I lived in the cbd I had a Suzuki and loved it .. no gears, just turn the handle and go, however when I moved out to the burbs I sold it because I wasnt going to get the use out of it. ------------- Mummy to Issy (3) and Elias (18 months) I did it .. 41 kgs gone! hubby had a yamaha CV50 scooter for a couple years and it was fantastic. So cheap to run! We had to get a bigger car with baby #3 coming, and he decided to sell the scooter and keep our other car (he's a bit of a wuss and winter can be very chilly on a scooter - if you have decent wet weather gear and a good jacket you'll be fine though!). Really economical to run though and he never had any hassles with it. They usually have pretty good resale value too. ------------- ~Cassie~

My hubby has had 2 Honda Dios (50cc) and they were such great runners, cost virtually nothing in gas and easy in maintenance. lol i brought a honda pal on friday it was great but i took it into uni today and... it was stolen it was found in a bush later but it was destroyed and all its wires were cut up! the cops think that bthey left it there to pickl it up tonight! im so so upset! -------------

Make sure you get decent gear (which isn't cheap). People ride around in shorts and tshirts but they're still going 50kph. And when you hit a car at 50kph, guess who comes out worse off. I've provided rehab to a number of people who haven't worn the right protective gear on their heads or bodies, and it's not pretty. The average scooter rider comes off at least once a year apparently.
DH has a 125cc, so he had to get his motorike license. Petrol is $6/week (West Akld to city,5 days a week). I keep telling him to take the petrol coupons from the supermarket but he keeps resisting  He used to bus, and it saves him 2 hours a day. Total outlay at the start, including all the gear, was $5K + but we worked out that it will all pay off in less than 2 years (when compared with the cost of bussing)------------- Mum to two wee boys |
