My son has just turned 3 months and had his vaccinations a few days ago. He has also started rolling from his back to front as of last week!

After a sleep he gets up and feeds, and is happy enough. I change his nappy and then he gets some play time on his mat. This last week I have noticed that he gets increasingly annoyed/grizzly VERY quickly during his playtime. This is when he is on his front or back. He is constantly trying to put his fist into his mouth, is dribbling and has developed eczema around his neck (not sure if it is related?). He also likes it when I put my finger in his mouth and bites down quite hard with his gums.

Could he be teething this early??? Or is there some other explanation for this behaviour?

If it is, can I do anything to make him feel better??

Quite possibly could be teething - babies can be teething for a long time before getting any teeth! Its a bit difficult when they start getting sore gums before they are old enough to hold onto a teething toy properly, but you could try those ones that you can put in the fridge and help him hold it? Hopefully it will ease - it can go on and off for ages...

Hes of the age where he wants to explore, one of the ways they do this is by experimenting with their mouth. Daniel did it. i was sure it was teething but it wasnt, he didn't get teeth for another 6 months! Its normal for them to chew and suck on their fists, toys, anything within reach.

The eczema is probably from the drool. Daniel got it on his cheeks and chin from all the drool

DS 'appeared' to be teething like you've discribed from about 3mths to 5mths. No teeth though.
Then 2 teeth appared out of nowhere about 8mths.

DD is 6 months and we have been having that sort of behaviour on and off from about 3 months. I think she is/was exploring and at times her teeth were moving about. A few times they looked pretty close to cutting then dissapeared again.

Cooper has been going through exactly what you have described for the last month or so now, I can now very faintly see a wee white dot on his bottom gum and feel a sharp point so it is definately teething here.

I often rub my finger along his gums and let him have a good chew - he loves it. Also, holding a teething toy in his mouth for him to have a good chew. Also, I got a teething necklace for him and that seems to help too.

I've been putting some bepanthen on his rash/excema now and again and that seems to help that side of things.

Yeah that sounds like pretty common behaviour for that age. They are usually just exploring by putting things in their mouth. Although in saying that I remember wondering the same thing with my DS1 when he was three months old and then his two bottom front teeth appeared a week later.

So teething is a possibility. It's early, but definitely not too uncommon.
