Well, I've had a growth scan today as the Dr thinks that this little guy isn't so little. Since Andrew was 9lbs 2oz (after Sean was 7lb 2oz) and managed to get his shoulder stuck on the way out, there has been talk of induction before or on due date being bantered around by the health professionals.
Today's scan showed that the [not so] little guy is well in the 95th percentile with an estimated fetal weight today of 2439g (5lb 6oz), head circumference of 32.51cm (37w5d), BPD 8.98cm (36w) with a conclusion from the radiologist as "Large babe". There seems to be a common thread amongst many of the discussions about all of our big bumps and guesstimated large babies. It will be interesting to see how much this guy grows in the next four weeks before the next scan. Needless to say, unless he appears early, I won't need to rush out and buy those 0000 or newborn sized clothes!

From memory Addison was about the same weight at the same stage and she was induced 38 weeks at 8lb 7oz. I had been told not to bother buying any newborn clothes but she is still in some of her 0000 clothes! I was so worried she was going to get stuck but thankfully no probs. At least you will get to see your bubs again soon

Hehe, I'm the opposite - I KNOW my babies are going to be small, but I just can't get my head around it after Maya being so big. I haven't bought any 0000 clothes, only 000, I figure I'll get the smaller ones later if I need them.

You know I actually feel a bit better now...at 32 weeks estimated weight for my little princess was 4 pound 2 so that may not be too huge right?

our growth scan at 33 weeks with Ayja showed she was estimated at 5lb 4 oz, with a head circ of 29cm.. so that's a little bit smaller than the estimate of your bubs but not by too much - .. we were really surprised when out she popped (albeit just over 2 weeks early) at only 6lb 2oz. I do suppose it really depends on genetics etc on how much they gain in that final growth spurt.
I had felt like i was huge compared to when i had paris too, and i knew from the scan with Ayja that i didn't have much fluid there.. so yeah complete surprise and apound difference between 1st and second babies.. Paris was 7lb 3, Ayja 6 lb 2.. I always thought they were supposed to get a little bigger.

But still didn't really use too many of the little little clothes.. both of my girls had really long bodies - especially Ayja, Paris had the long legs etc, Ayja has an annoyingly long body... you buy stuff to fit her in the boddy and have to roll up the sleeves!

Hehe Janine - my first was 7lbs2oz and second was 9lbs2oz...and whoa could I feel the difference that 2lbs makes!!! I think the scan in 4 weeks will be used to check the rate at which this chap is putting on the pounds.

Kobe was 7lb 2oz and Addison was 8lb 7oz. With the growth scan though it can be quite inaccurate sometimes cos of the calculations they go by. If the baby has taken a mouthful of fluid the abdominal size can be bigger than it really is and tht is one of the measurements they use in the calculation. In saying that the scans with my two were both 2oz out.

My first two were 8lb 12oz and 9lb 14oz ... I was massive with the 9 pounder .. he was a february baby so I spent most of my time wallowing in the sea ... this baby has a different father if that makes a difference to the birth weight ... I hope it does lol ...

At what stage to you have this growth scan?

You can be sent to have a growth scan at around 32 weeks if they suspect that bubs could be big or lying in a difficult position. You're 9-lber was only an ounce off being a 10-lber!!! I'm feeling massive at the moment - I've gone from fitting into my jeans and skirts and shirts etc three weeks ago to stretching everything out to the limit this week. I think my uniform for the next 8 weeks will be trackies and granny cardigans. I even committed the ultimate fashion sin and wore my slippers to the mall last night. Nick was horrified but a) I couldn't reach my feet to put on anything more appropriate and b) my ankles swell up at night and slippers are the most comfortable thing around.

Funny enough the almost 10 pounder was a far easier birth than the almost 9 ... I was sooooooo suprised by his size and that I had managed to push him out with relative ease ...

LOL at your fashion sin ... Ive been guilty of that .. my slippers are tigerfeet too hehe ... hubby puts on his groucho glasses and nose to match my slippers The looks we get are hillarious!!

Ooooh, I wore my PJ's to the supermarket when I was in labour with Maya (long story). I had to stop every few minutes for a contraction, and I must have had a look on my face that said "go on, say something to me if you dare" because no one said a word!

Nick's been wearing the t-shirt that I wore for labour (and birth) with Andrew to the gym for the past six months, and even though I hot wash it with persil after every gym outing it still has the aroma of man-sweat. Ewwww.
I think I'm going to plot revenge by claiming one of his t-shirts this time around. I just like the idea of a baggy, loose shirt that covers up a bit more than having everything hanging out (which is invariably how I end up anyway).

The one I got in labour was just a pull over the head all in one, in white - then it was onto a blue snap up the front one, and I also had a brief fling with a purple pull over the head one, but ditched that ASAP since it didn't help much with feeding !

Ah, you see after my combined time at North Shore Hospital (I spent over a month in there when I was eighteen for gall stones and then on and off over the next decade for renal colic) I have mastered the art of wearing the NSH gown with panache and style. Oh yes ladies - you double the dome ones. You wear one front ways so that the floppy unbra-ed boobs are covered and then one like a dressing gown so that the maternity granny knickers are hidden from view. If you are really, really ready for runway style, you get two different coloured smocks for dramatic contrasting effect (just don't forget the standard accessories of unshaven legs and men's workboot socks as you shuffle down the corridor with your IV stand!)

Well I bought some pj's from the warehouse - $20 job and I'll probably get a another pair, cheap enough that I don't care if they get ruined for some reason...silky enough feeling that I can *try* to feel pretty after pushing a watermelon out a garden hose....oops...I mean giving birth to my beautiful daughter.

Bugger, I hadn't thought about what I'm actually going to WEAR at the hospital lol. Might have to buy me some cheap nighties. When I was there a couple of weeks ago they have the heating turned right up so it is really warm on the wards.

Yep, I've got the photos in the NSH blue smocks from when I had Andrew...great big deranged smile, dishevelled hair do, blue smock - all good and captured on film forever!!!

I found the hospital to be ridiculously hot - so I think I'll stick with summer-weight stuff this time around too.

Yup, that was one of the things I really hated, was how hot it was in there at NSH ! I think they keep it at around 23 degrees constantly, which although it sounds pleasant, gets a bit much after a while. Having the door open with the privacy curtain helps a little, but then you get the constant dinging of the call buttons driving you crazy instead

I think the bare minimum is six hours, but I could stand to be corrected on that? I was personally really grateful to have had five days in there (albeit due to a post-natal complication), despite the heat on the ward.

And just coz Maree was brave enough... here's one of my pics of me in my favorite hospital gown (Mind you I think I have posted this one before...)

LMAO at all that sushi Jax - I'm so jealous!

3 nights is standard for a normal delivery and 5 after a c-sect, but it does depend on how you recover and how bubs is doing. If bubs has jaundice or feeding probs they can sometimes keep you longer.

Hey Suzie,
With a second baby, North Shore Hospital aims at having you trucked out after 2 days - even if you have a gap of a decade between them like I did. That being said, you can either leave early (like I did) if you would feel more comfortable at home or dig your heels in and stay until you are ready to go. The hospital can't make you pack your bags and turf you to the sidewalk.
For first babies they aim at between three and five days stay. It's a tough one, because staying until breast feeding is established with milk in would be the ideal, but government funding isn't anywhere near health at the moment. Maybe if it was a prison hospital?
