I've been starting to get this quite bad at night and milk isn't helping like it did last time, but i read online somewhere that apple cider vinegar can be really good (i HATE Gaviscon etc). BUT i went to buy some today and the lady at the healthshop thought it might not be safe for pregnancy?? does anyone know if it is or not, or has tried it? Don't see MW till the end of next week and really want to get onto this sooner...
thnx in advance!

I have some, its doesnt taste great but u just use a spoonful in a glass of water. I just looked for you, and it doesnt say anything about not being safe in pregnancy on the bottle. I cant see why it would be a problem.

I havent taken it for reflux, I was told to get it by my natural health prectioner for energy boosting, and yeah it does for that!
It says u can add it to salads, veges and most foods, but Ive only had it in a glass of water.
Bragg Organic Raw-Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar. $8 for a 473ml bottle from an organic fruit and vege shop.

I get quite bad heartburn and use titralac and gaviscon generally but I just got something new from pharmacy called ManukaGuard Nutralize which is made of Apple cider vinager and Manuka Honey. It was $30 for the bottle so maybe I got sucked in! But the pharmacist was totally honest and said that it had only just arrived in and she had not sold any yet and could I come back and let her know if it was any good!!! Should have asked for a discount!
Anyway enough ramble .... based on that I think it would be fine to take cider vinager. The pharmacist rechecked just to be sure this product was okay in pregnancy.
I took the stuff last night before bed and got no heartburn all night so maybe it is good, will give it a few more nights before I am convinced though.

I have really bad reflux most nights (I wake up with vomit in my mouth type thing) I ahve found that as much as I HATE the Gaviscon dual action liquid it does the trick, so just block my nose and swallow, shudder and deal with it, at least its over with in a few seconds rather than having to deal with constant reflux.
Ive also found that some foods set it off too, like tomatoes, marmite, indian, chocolate etc so try avoiding things like that too

Yeah I have also found that the Gaviscon liquid is quite good. I have also found that orange juice causes it as well.

I'm like emmi. I take the dual action gaviscon, and it makes me gag every night, but it's effective so I just deal. I still dread bed time because of it, but the alternative is far worse.

I'm using that Manuka / Apple Cider Vinegar Nutralize stuff too and the info I got specifically said it was safe for pregnancy. And it totally works for me - I hate gaviscon so this stuff is great (plus it doesn't interfere with the iron tablet absorption like the gaviscon does). Don't be fooled by the addition of the honey or flavouring (it comes in peach or maple), it still tastes like vinegar

I'm glad to see this thread - Bubs must have grown that extra millimetre or something, because I have nasty heartburn now. I've never had it before, so didn't even know milk might help - I'm off to try that, and will get more serious if needs be

It is called ManukaGuard Nutralize, I got it from a Unichem pharmacy. I got the peach flavour but I would have to agree with Weegee it does taste like vinager!

Hi,
I have suffered badly with heartburn. Have you tried titralac? I found this was the only thing that helped. Everything else, Gaviscon etc just made me feel sick.
Hope you find something soon :-)

I had bad heartburn too, I toughed it out in the end because nothing worked but bananas gave me some slight relief.

I had horrible reflux all the way through pregnancy with Sienna. Just toughed it out with the Gaviscon tablets, couldn't stand the liquid version, it was like drinking chalk! I did ask about Losec but because it's a fairly new drug it hasn't been tested properly with pregnant women (that's what my nurse at work told me anyway). What did help with my reflux was McDonalds thickshakes, sounds silly and didn't tale it away completely but made it waaaay less painful.

Marika is it ranitidine? that's what I got prescribed and it's worked a treat.
It's also sold under the name Zantac which is more well known I think.
Apparently they give it in liquid form to babies in NICU and SCBU so I was very happy it was safe to take.
